View Full Version : Link to forum list in sig?

UKSBD

Would it be appropriate to add a link to a list of business forums in my sig?
Would the mods, administrators have any objections to this?

INDIZINE
25th February 2008, 09:20
Its ok because Dave @ Mytchmac promotes the sales and markting forum in his sig too. whether its 1 or 5 shouldnt matter. Nothing in the rules says you cannot mention other forum url's either.

ps as long as its not the banned one :)

What is the banned one you speak of? I saw the rumpus thread and I'm curious.

I gather it's being censored so could you email me on contact @ openmindedsolutions.co.uk ?

I was wondering, whats the beef with 4 networking.biz?

DuaneJackson
26th February 2008, 14:06
A while ago a group of people joined this forum and were just PMing people with the link to 4notworking. So the easiest thing to do was add it to the swear filter so the link didn't get through.

As you can see from other posts, there's no problem at all with linking to other forums. But blatantly posting/PMing/Joining just to promote another forum is obviously not cricket.

Duane - thanks for the info, nice to know the reason why... cheers

INDIZINE
26th February 2008, 14:40
ok that makes sense I suppose. So that should not prevent us from mentioning the name then?

As there's loads of other forums out there and a list is even being compiled by ukbdf, we should be able to include it where it is not being used in the wrong sense?

DuaneJackson
26th February 2008, 14:43
You'd need to contact Sift about that. I have no control over the filters.

My personal opinion is that Brett who runs 4N appeared to be encouraging it at the time, so he's just shot himself in the foot really.

INDIZINE
26th February 2008, 14:49
I really dont see it as a comparison site though. Both are different to me, so I dont see any issue with regards encouraging members to visit or register there. I use various forums each for what meets my purpose. I imagine it's the same for most people.

UKSBD
26th February 2008, 15:06
No disrespect intended Duane.
But do the moderators have the authority to answer questions like the one
I originally asked, or should I wait until an administrator answers the question?

DuaneJackson

I wouldn't have thought it'd be a problem.

If you're at all concerned that it might be then by all means PM Darren or Paula to ask.

Mr Jackson

You forgot the other reason which I posted about on another thread.

The fact that certain members of that forum (in full agreement with the forum leader) took it upon themselves to launch a full scale tirade of this forum because of one member who had asked to be banned from here.
That one member has been back on this forum in a number of guises since and once threatened two of the moderators.

Those members of that network had never been on here before but joined solely for the purpose of causing trouble.

The Pm ing of members took place just after that incident.

So now you have the history (but the full history would take far too long).

It terms of offerings Michael as you are now fully aware that network has a completely different business model to this one and therefore cannot even be considered as a competitor.

They are aimed at very different requirements.....some people like social networking others don't:D

No problem linking to other forums in your sig...but as Duane said, if it gets to the point where someone's using UKBF to actively drum up members for another forum, it's a different matter!

Nothing in it for me at all, I have had the list there for over 18 months.

In a thread earlier this week someone asked about other forums so I posted
a link to my list, others then said it would be better if it provided more info;
member numbers, post numbers, threads etc.

I updated the list and added the further info after people mentioned it,
and will include it in my sig for the next week so anyone interested can
see it.

Interesting comment about social networking, not sure I understood what you mean insomuch as to some level all online communities are social and networking to varying degrees?Take a poll among the memebers here to and ask if they wish to attend regular network events (eg BRE, BNI or 4 N) and you will find a majority that say they are not interested........one of the reasons that they are on these forums anyway(Or at least they did last time the question was asked).

Yes there is a degree of social interaction but not the primary reason most people are on here.:)

RayB
26th February 2008, 19:49
so this comment coming from you isn't at all neccessary is it Ray;):D

It was entirely necessary, as the history had already been laid out (which had nothing to do with the thread ahem), so if I was going to comment on this thread it was entirely appropriate that I give full disclosure - I'm a member of both and would not criticise one or the other or vice versa.

Take a poll among the memebers here to and ask if they wish to attend regular network events (eg BRE, BNI or 4 N) and you will find a majority that say they are not interested........one of the reasons that they are on these forums anyway(Or at least they did last time the question was asked). As a subject that fascinates me, has there been such a survey? I'd love to have a look at what people want

Yes there is a degree of social interaction but not the primary reason most people are on here.:)Hence my interest in any surveys, or is this a personal opinion? It will be fascinating to see how this forum develops based on market research and policy implementation by Sift. I know Darren is working really hard on this area and I look forward to whatever is rolled out accordingly.

I link to a lot of sites that I think are good and useful to my visitors
I even link to direct competitors of mine if I think they are good sites.
