appearing in google. I have just googled my company name and although it is terrific but not good for marketing you are using the forum to seek advice that the requests/threads are showing on google for potential clients/competitors to read - how can I prevent this.

Anything you don't want to appear in Google can be posted in the private section. That's the only way to do it ATM.

You can't prevent it, unless you post in the private section.

Even then, sift does not offer any guarantees that someone wont sign up as a paid member, and copy/paste the content onto other sites....
If you want something really, really private, never post it where it can be read by anyone, as 36 quid is not much to pay if a competitor wanted to play dirty tricks...

If you don't stand by what you say, then don't say it!
If you are asking for help with something sensitive then yes the private area is a good place, however, anything you put down in writing on the internet might bite you in the a**e one day, so its just something to be aware of!

I personally will never ever use either my full real name or business name in any of my posts or sigs anywhere! Its all very well saying stand by what you post etc but I wouldn't even want people I do business with to know I post on Forums full stop:) I think there should be a warning when you sign up on a Forum telling you that anything you write could be attributed to you or your business should you be careless about what personal info you put about.
meant to say, you've just got ditch the signature havn't you, then eventually all your posts drop off Google

Agreed. That's one of the reasons I maintain anonymity here, I then have complete freedom to say what I like, and hopefully make a better and uninhibited contribution.
But I think it's also OK to post as an identifiable business, you just need to abide by different rules. The squabble in the other thread is really whining from those that want it both ways. I don't have much sympathy with those that want their cake and to eat it.

Hi Thanks - when I signed up to forum I was just starting out I was not aware of the private area of the fee but have amended, I have not put anything that I have any worries about but did not realise that any postings I did appeared in Google know from now...
