View Full Version : Promotion Query

In May 2007 I was promoted at work to the level of Supervisor. My contract is a "zero hours" contract, basically meaning that I am not guanateed any work unless it is offered (its an events management company).

At the interview, I was told that I would need to undertake a supervisor training course with them which would be arranged soon. However, it was also mentioned that I could do some shadowing etc and then work as a supervisor before I undertook the course (it was made out that this course was only a formality).

Between May and October I only had about 4 supervisor shifts (but dozens of original level shifts). I had found out from other supervisors at work that quite a few of them had not taken this course. I emailed my manager to ask him about the situation and he basically said that they were able to work as supervisors because he knew of their capabilities and I would have to show my skills and wait for this training course (a bit too sided i think).

Since this point nothing has really been done and I am still working at my original level with no supervisor shifts since November. I was wondering what my rights were in this situation, as I was promoted (have the letter and everything) but nothing has materialised. I also dont want to create too many waves due to my contract, meaning that they could just turn around and not offer me anymore work.

To top things off, I found out that there was a supervisor course last weekend that 3 others were invited to but I was not. To my knowledge I have not done anything that would have annoyed the management, infact in my opinion I am a hard working employee. Also, other people who were not interviewed have been working as a supervisor instead of me - to be honest, I have become quite worked up about the situation and would like to have it sorted.

What are my options?
