Good Evening All

This question is directed at website developers so I hope I have placed it in the correct section.

As many of you are aware my site www dot aluxurygift4you dot com was designed by EKM and went live with them at the end of November 2007.

I would like to make a change on the homepage but cannot afford to have it done for me so I wanted to know if I ( I do not have any HTML/WEBSITE DESIGN EXPERIENCE) could do it myself and if so could any of you either tell me how to do it (simple instructions please!) or direct me to somewhere on the internet where it tells me what to do.

The area that I wanted to change, which does have an EDIT facility that I can access, is in the top right hand corner of the home page where there is a picture of some jewellery. I do not know what the technical term is but what I would like to be able to do is have a series of say 6 products that I sell appearing one at a time every say 10 seconds in that area rather than have the one static image.

Can any of you advice me?

Thank you in advance.

Regards

Alan Hope

Hi,

We are with EKM also and I wrote the page myself by messing around witht their templates. I have been writting in HTML (off and on) for around 10 years though.

I would not recomend you try to do this yourself as HTML, although quite simple, can get very messy. I have to admit I don't think your site needs a redesign anyway, it looks good to me. I'd spend more time on gettign it up the Google rankings if I were you.

Why are you thinking of changing it? The only thing I would change right away is the very poor quality thumbnails.

There are several ways to do this.

One way is to replace the image imagemagic.jpg with a different type of image called an animated gif. You can create a gif image that animates, ie changes over time. The problem is that animated gifs can ony use 256 colours so the quality wont be great.

The other way is to insert a flash file which links directly to images in a selected folder. That way, if you want to change the images at any time, you just place the ones you want in that folder and the flash file shows them as a slideshow.

Or you could just get sharper thumbnails :D One thing about EKM is if you do not use perfectly square pictures it messes them up.
