Hi all,
I run a retail shop and want to set up an Epos system and also a website for selling and for people to reserve items to collect (like argos for example).
I have found a couple of ways to do it but am after something cheaper. Cybertill was one but I don't like the offsite storage idea and it is too expensive.
It can also be done with Actinic linked with actinic epos, but you cannot show level of stock on the website which is a function I need.
I'm happy to spend upto £1.5k on this for software, must be a DIY system, I don't want to pay someone else to do it.
Any ideas anyone?
Cheers
Adam

im not using anything at the moment. Just have a retail shop with manual stock control. I had a site a few years ago using Actinic so am familiar with it, but I am happy to learn a new one if it has the right features at the right price.

Look up Intelligent Retail they do this - not sure about the reserve an item element - I had a demo and was impressed - it is now mature software I think.

I forget about £1500 with all the EPOS hardware from memory.
Why not just ring them and get the enquiry going. They sent me a mailing the other day and will be going to some trade fairs over the next couple of months so you could catch them there. Or ask for a personal demo.
They seemed a professional bunch to me and the software looked very good. But only using it would throw up any bugs etc.

Hi Adam, have a shifty here: http://www.intelligentretail.co.uk/
I don't know what the cost is (they've been clever and hidden it)... but the free on-site visit might be able to help you in your quest for seeing what you need... even if you don't go with them in the end :)

You can show stock on screen using Actinic. Its quite easy to do. Here is a working example:

Hiya, have a look at Microsoft Dynamics Retail Management System.
http://www.microsoft.com/uk/dynamics/products/rms/keyfeatures/default.mspx
Get in touch with them they send your details to reps who contact you, they come and do a demo etc and so on and then give a quote based on needs. i.e they supply the pc, the software, follow up support etc.
Failing that have you considered myob
http://myob.com/servlet/Satellite?cid=1133485812525&pagename=MYOB%2FProduct%2FBusinessProduct&site=en_UK&c=Product
or mamut
http://www.mamut.com/uk/servicesuite/
with microsoft rms, if you dont like the rep, want more advise, want more information, or want to work with another company you can go back and ask to be referred to another and another until you find the one you like.
Best wishes.

Its standard Actinic functionality. Doesn't require any addons or extensions.

Chris, I've got my plans on a back burner at the minute - but please let me know what the cost of your system would be for my kind of needs (by P.M. if you wish) and do you have any example sites that are up and running at the moment so I can see the e-commerce side of things in action?

Actinic has an "external linking" function that allows it to pull information from a variety of databases and will update stock levels in that database.

Can you do this database linking live, or do you have to click something to update (or sync) the databases?
