eBay sponsored links are linked to Google Adwords, so if you are using Adwords there is a chance that you will appear on eBay

I am not seeing any sponsored links, just the banner ads at the top.
Maybe it is something they are trialling with a limited set of users.

At the end of the day though eBay are a business, if they make more money advertising for Argos than selling the item for you (or ultimately probably both) then they have every right to do so

I guess the cost you need to pay just to place your banner ads on ebay homepage is very expensive, but if you can afford to pay and you really want your site visible on their page you can just follow their guidelines for affiliate programs, see it under Affiliates section below their page.
