Hi

I have recently set up an online writing business focusing on writing letters. Aware that many people, including those who have been successful, find writing letters very difficult, I thought there may be a market for this sort of thing. The website is aimed at people with grievances, but I wish to also help business where possible.

I wish to sound out users of this forum as I know that many are from the world of business.

Firstly, Given that there are all sorts of cost implications for businesses producing correspondence, do you think there could be a market for me to write letters for businesses through my own home-based site? I wonder if this could be more cost-effective in some respects than firms having to employ armies of admin staff, particularly in this age when items can speedily be transmitted by e-mail.

Secondly, if there is a place for such a service, any ideas on how best to approach businesses to describe how this can be of benefit?

I'm always open to suggestions - and constructive criticism! My website is on my personal profile on this forum.

Many thanks

Mark

looks like your undercharging, unless ive read your prices wrong. I would also list your background/credentials/qualifications to support your letter writing ability. The average copywriter fee is around £30 an hour that I have seen.

You also need to highlight your disclaimer policy loud and clear as that could be your downfall without it in place. Do you need any liability insurance for this type of work? ie for any retaliation of what you write being incorrect or libellous on behalf of your client? These are just things I would consider as a customer.

I would agree pricing is too low.. Think about what the benefit of a good letter is to a business and the time you will save them. Would also support a very strong and clear disclaimer and appropriate insurance, possibly even Prof indemnity, its relatively cheap.

Good luck

Professional Indemnity insurance cover is usually a couple to a few hundred pounds though is linked to type of business, but most office based stuff is in that range and does depend on what level cover you require as a minimum.

Consider all of your overheads plus your tax and NI that you will have to pay, when you are working out your pricing structure.
