What do you all think about affiliate websites for a starter?

I was thinking to get into the ecommerce 'game' i could start selling affiliate serives/products (reducing my risk to failure) and when the site is fully established i will replace the affiliate links with my own products, giving me better profit maximization.

Would you suggest this start up on a budget?

There are affiliate marketeers out there earning mega bucks and plenty earning nothing.

To sell affiliate products you need traffic and you need a site that converts the traffic, it's a specialist area and there are people who are very good at it.

You need to do a lot of research

I'm sure if there is some decent content on there you can do well.

Yes it will be difficult but it will build (in my opinion) the foundation for a business later on, with 'traffic' coming in, Search engine listings, i will be a niche affiliate marketer, (which products i haven't decided upon just yet)

And i plan on doing this marketing SEM wise for a while, i wouldn't consider myself as a SEO expert but i do know it, and know how to rank well (+ learning new things along the way)

I too plan on launching a website which is purely as an affiliate website, the idea has been out there for years, many people are doing it and making a good profit from it but also many fail.

The idea of the website shouldn't be purely based on the links, you need to be thinking about how you are going to advertise the links to your customers, the best way to do this and how you are going to get visitors to click the links.

You would also need to make the website attractive as well as making the user feel safe, remember an Affiliate website can harder to sell to a visitor then a normal e-commerce website!

Affiliate selling is almost entirely about marketing. You'll find that all the top affiliate sellers are also excellent marketers.

If you are looking to set up quick affiliate stores then there are a couple of good software packages I've used in the past - Amazon (Associate-o-Matic) Ebay (BANS). They are a one of purchase and you can use them on as many sites as you like
