Loose-Fit takes the Apple at the House of Commons
13 November, 2007 : - - Braunton-based Loose-Fit Surf Shop and Café has won a prestigious trophy in this year’s Green Apple Environmental Awards. The award was presented to the team by David Bellamy at the House of Commons, in recognition of the company’s pioneering ‘CarbonZero Surfing’ campaign.
The Green Apple Awards are in their fourteenth year and attracted more than 500 nominations this year. They are organised by The Green Apple Organisation, an independent, non-political, non-activist, non-profit environmental group dedicated to recognising, rewarding and promoting environmental best practice around the world.
Jon Finch, founder of Loose-Fit, says “We are delighted that our work has been recognised it such a way, and it is a great reflection on the hard work and commitment of the staff, who are responsible for implementing the eco vision of how we want to run our business”.
Since 2006 Loose-Fit has been working with co2balance to become CarbonZero. Over 200 trees have been planted locally to Loose-Fit in the South West. In addition, the shop uses a green energy supplier and was the first in the surf industry outside the US to become a member of the organisation 1% For The Planet, a US based global alliance of businesses committed to protecting our natural environment and creating a healthier planet.
Members contribute at least one percent of their net sales to select environmental organisations and projects. Loose-Fit’s flagship store in Devon is home to an unrivalled selection of hand-crafted surfboards and an extensive range of clothing from howies, Loose-Fit Organic, The Ryde, RVCA, Mojito and West Wetsuits, as well as specialist surfing equipment, longboard fins, films, books, music and art.
The Loose-Fit Organic range is made from high quality organic cotton and comprises an eclectic array of clothing designed and commissioned by artists. The store also stocks clothing from Loose-Fit’s sister company, Four Iron, a brand designed to cater for the contemporary golf player, with an emphasis on bringing golf into the modern era.
December 2007 will see Loose-Fit opening a shop in the vibrant area of Clifton in Bristol, providing an exciting opportunity for Loose-Fit to further establish its brand and identity, and strengthen its presence in the South West.
