Yesterday on a breakfast TV program was an item on how people are flying to New York to do their christmas shopping. The reason to go there is that you can get loads more for your money. It was all presented very positively as if this was something really good to aspire to.
If ever there was a case of unneccessary travel, surely this is it?
It does seem that doing your bit by getting low energy bulbs, etc is meaningless when so many people see their number 1 priority as shopping and consumption. The gov. doe not help by allowing airport expansion whilst exhorting us to do more recycling, etc.

Not very encouraging.

Along with the St pancras to paris eurotrain cost 6 billion,

train ticket is 5 x times a plane ticket madness and waste.

When you look at the bigger picture all the low energy bulbs in the world won't do any good until china, india and the US do the same.
For every KWh we save those three countries will use.

If you do buy organic produce and low energy bulbs get them from somewhere like Fescos or Rainsbury as you can convert the points to airmiles and go to New York for almost nothing, to get a cheap Iphone full of horrid chemicals (http://www.itweek.co.uk/business-green/news/2201184/greenpeace-slams-apple-iphone).
All a bit of a mess really. Or you could just choose not to fly to New York for cheaper goodies to celebrate the Season of Good Consuming...(Oops, Christmas).

We went to Hong Kong for four days in the spring, we're flying to Jersey for two days this weekend and are having a weekend in Boston mid-Dec.

No half measures here.
