I see on the news and in the papers on a dily basis that people are moaning about the issue with fortnightly pickups and how their bins are overflowing, and this is coming from people who recycle too, i recycle but i am not one of them.
My question is why is no one screaming about the packaging, I know some are but not very loudly its never mentioned on the news. Its almost Xmas and you know what the choc calendars are like, 25 tiny choc one massive box, sorting packaging out is surely the easy way around this, fine those who use excessive packaging.

Hello Michael,
I agree in part at least - the recycling of packaging is a real problem (you can hear the but.... from a mile) I don't think the answer lies in imposing fines on those who use excessive packaging - more backs up.
I think the answer is to make each of us (as consumers) to choose responsibly.
I wish we could promote the fact that when you purchase a product be it a bottle of juice or a sandwich or a whatever - you buy the whole thing, packaging included, the whole thing becomes your responsibility, the onus is on you.
Although yes I couldn't agree more - those advent calendars really are dreadful - horrid 'chocolate' in masses of plastic!

My biggest annoyance, is the business envelopes and junk mail that comes plastic coated or the ones with plastic windows. Why not just make them plain paper for easy recycling?
