How to Start Selling Online?

E-commerce is growing at an exponential rate. There has never been a better time to be on the receiving end of that spending pattern, and the market keeps improving. Many people start an e-commerce site as their primary business.

Creating a Web site for the purpose of selling products or services online entails a large amount of research and planning. When you start an online business, forgetting one simple step can make the difference between success and failure.

Here are the steps to help you get started:

1. Create a business and marketing plan
2. Choose a good Web site address (domain name) to help customers find you
3. Select the right e-commerce software with a shopping cart
4. Apply for a merchant account for processing credit cards
5. Secure your site to let customers know it is safe to do business with you
6. Design your site to be user-friendly
7. Test the site
8. Promote your site online

We've posted some (hopefully) informative articles which cover various aspects of Internet retail, including how to sell more online (http://www.internetretailer.biz/partner/sell_more_online.aspx?qsaid=154) and using affiliates (http://www.internetretailer.biz/partner/affiliates.aspx?qsaid=170) to promote your products and increase visitor numbers.

We used to sell online, between us we've over 20 years of combined Internet retail experience in a wide range of markets. These days we focus purely on helping others succeed with their own online shops (http://www.internetretailer.biz).

To be honest I think the combined experiences of community members in this forum can answer just about any online selling question from experience, its about the best place to gain knowledge on web retail :D
