According to Guardian Peak Oil- the point at which half of global oil production has been consumed, and beyond which extraction goes into irreversible decline, and prices rise accordingly - is almost upon us. The International Energy Agency has said that world production overall will peak between 2010 and 2020.
More important- acoording to the same source the Department of Energy reported yesterday that US crude stockpiles had fallen by 3.9m barrels to 312.7m barrels last week, the lowest level since October 2005.

Are governments and companies investing enough in other energy resources?
How will consumers be affected by the increase of oil prices??

There are a lot of untapped reserves around the world. For example, Finland is sitting on a lot of oil. Plus, I thought I read a while back that we have enough oil to keep us going for at least another hundred years - which is plenty of time in which to generate new forms of energy production.

No paper, chemicals or any oil based products were harmed (or should that be Hammed :| ) in the production of this http://blog.une.edu.au/itd-news/files/2007/05/spamcomputermonitor.jpg

but you know that that very fact will mean nothing will be done for another 99 years and then there'll be all-out panic...

For sure, necessity is the mother of invention. Still, there have been great strides recently in hybrid car technology, and cars based on other power sources are beginning to appear. It's an exciting time for inventors and entrepreneurs in that industry.

sounds like oil co's spreading fear of oil price rises and lack of oil, there are so many new finds happening over the last few years, we have more coal than we know what to do with, our problem is adopting alternative fuel, and dealing with the excess carbon and dust particles if we don't.
