Kate here.

I run an online fair trade gift shop and offer fair trade parties in the West Norfolk area.

Anyone else?

I'm RayB!

I run an online printing company and we specialise in the sort of things small businesses use - Flyers, Leaflets, Postcards, Brochures, Letterheads, Business Cards and so on.

All our products are printed on conventional paper which is FSC Certified (Forest Stewardship Council), with the option to choose 100% recycled paper instead.

We aim to make our products a cost neutral choice compared to non-certified materials :)

Can I also suggest - for this intro section - it is not limited to those selling "eco products" - but to any member who has an interest in the issues :)

We manufacture and supply a product that will help reduce the amount of toilet tissue being used and ultimately being 'sent to drain'...thus both economically and environmentally friendly, and consequently less trees being chopped down.

Hi,

I run Frenergy, a design, supply and installation company for renewable energy and associated products.

Our main focus is solar water heating, but we are starting to sell more and more products online, be it basic things like wireless power meters, right up to full solar systems for DIY install.

if we can help anyone, just shout.

I'm in the fashion recycling business, selling and re-selling pre-owned, vintage and retro clothing and accessories, thus helping to keep 'style miles' and 'fast fashion' landfill fodder to a minimum.

Hello
My name is Gill, I manufacture (or as we prefer to say 'prepare') a range of cleaning products, by hand - using only 100% natural ingredients. We also offer a full recycling service for all of our packaging.
That is really all we do - but it keeps us busy.

Voipfone is a telephone company that is mostly purple and yellow but, I’m told, also ‘green’.

That is to say, we are totally paperless and office-less. We have a tiny carbon foot print as we do not travel to and from work every day (except to walk downstairs) and we build products and services that help others to do the same.

We supply services to SustainIT.org and I’m a judge on their annual award sponsored by BT, Brother, AOL etc

“SustainIT, an initiative of leading charity UK CEED, focuses on the relationship between and sustainable development and seeks to demonstrate how the technologies can be used to realise these benefits.”

http://www.sustainit.org (http://www.sustainit.org)

We work this way, not to save the planet or for political and ethical reasons – although that obviously is great - but because it makes good business sense.

1st November 2007, 10:13
Hi
I'm Tracy, owner of Green Mums. When my daughter Lily was born a friend of mine told me about the benefits of using cloth nappies. I started to look into this, decided to use cloth nappies and also to tell my friends about the benefits of using them. This kind of grew as time went on, I started to look into the production process of cotton and the effect this has on cotton farmers and the environment. I started to add to her wardrobe with a few items made from organic clothing.

This snowballed even further and I started to look into the effects that some chemicals can have on our bodies which led me use only natural and organic products.

I became so passionate about this that I wanted to spread the word to other parents ... along came Green Mums.

Anyway, I'm rambling a bit but just wanted to add my story - what I do and why. It's going to be really great having this forum to share tips and ideas with like minded people.

See you all in the Green Room!

Hi

We run Alternative Soles .com. (http://www.alternativesoles.com)
Started off selling vegan shoes as leather is such a nasty product for polluting the earth & the chemicals they use to dye & treat the leather are really bad for humans.
We also do lots of other cool stuff such a vitamins & minerals, lots of vegetarian vegan goods inc sweets, chocolate etc

recently moved into eco friendly stuff - shampoos, conditioner etc & just looking for Fairtrade ranges & others to add to the site

Our main aim is to keep it affordable rather than the silly prices other sites charge for some goods

I can give anyone on here a 20% discount on any good you may want to buy (a few exceptions)

let me know what you think of our site

Hello, I'm Nicola

We sell a range of Fair Trade incense from Pondicherry, India including the only fair trade Nag Champa available (Nag Champa is the UK's favourite incense). We also sell fair trade Sound Therapy instruments.

In the new year we'll be selling hand made shamanic hand drums (which I'll be making myself) with skins sourced from Native American/Finnish tribes where the whole animal is used (rather than animals being killed for their skin and discarded).

Hi my name is Paula and I recycle old copper hot water tanks. I cut them down to reasonable sized sheet and turn them into enamel jewellery and other useful objects. It is not possible for me to be totally 'green' but there are all sorts of areas that I attempt to lessen impact. I also always buy old, coral, shell and horn, never new and also reform as much silver as possible.

Hi,

I'm Caroline and my joke and party business is probably the first to offer totally recycleable, compostable and renewably sourced tableware to the general public and businesses in small quantities.

This means instead of using 'disposable' party stuff, much of which is very hard to recycle due to coatings you can have a party or buisness event and then compost all your plates, cutlery, plastic glasses (corn starch), even the straws!

Well, there's always going to be an element of hypocrisy in what we do (just try finding more people in the travel industry to admit it!), but http://www.ethostravel.co.uk (http://www.ethostravel.co.uk/) is a Tour Operator specialising in South East Asia.

However, we focus smaller, locally owned hotels as opposed to enormous, generic, international branded hotels where most of your spend reverts to shareholders in the US!

To us it's about trying to ensure your holiday benefits the local community.

Hello everyone,

Green-works is a social enterprise that takes surplus office furniture from companies such as HSBC, Barclays and Unilever. This furniture is either made available to buy at low cost or the component materials are re-manufactured into new furniture.

I am writing from the 're-manufacture' department, we produce recycled furniture in batch quantities or in smaller numbers for bespoke jobs such as office re-fits, nurseries, schools, community centres and libraries.

It would be great to hear from anyone who wants to get invloved!

Thanks

Hi, I'm Alex.
I'm in the process of setting up a cycle courier business in and around my area.
No toxic fumes or gasses given off over here (unless after a curry:p), just a lot of sweat.

I'm in talks with a company to supply me with '90% recycled paper' and business equipment. I was even looking to purchase recycled toilet paper but my girlfriend and potential work mates thought that was taking it a little too far

Being green is one our main goals, and selling points.

I've never really thought about how eco friendly we are as a business, we just sort of "did our bit". A lot of it has been driven by myself and one of my staff called Kristina who shares my views on enviromental impact.
All the Mem&Arts we supply are printed on 100% recycled paper. We use low energy bulbs. All our cardboard and paper waste is recycled. Printer cartridges are recycled, and even postage stamps we receive on post is turn off and put to one side to be sent off to a company that recycles them.
All equipment that can be turned off when not in use is, and we have had the heating in the office replaced by an eco friendly heating and cooling system.

I even ride a mitorcycle that is better for the enviroment (and congestion) than cars :)

We have been doing this sort of stuff for ages, but with increased commercial pressures have decided we need to let others know that we do this sort of thing.

Hi All,

I'm new to this forum, Happy New year.

I ve recently gone in to business providing Home Information Packs (HIPs) to properties being sold in the South Yorkshire region. Part of the HIP is an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC). The EPC gives the property a rating between A - G on how it performs with regard to energy consumption and environmental impact. The EPC gives the data in graphical format much the same as can be found on white goods. Nearly 40% of the UKs energy consumption comes from buildings.

The forum looks great and I can't wait to be digging through it!

mmm, yes well. I could actually say quite a lot about that but I wont. I will say Nicola, don't try and sell shammanic native american drums. Why?: A respect problem with karmic implications. Please do a search on 'plastic shamanism'.

..and (absolutely deadly serious) I've heard some rather disturbing info from many people about the Nag Shampa 'gurus' behaviour. (its a guru insence). Yes really. Source some other. The inner bookshop has some very very nice authentic and non chemical insence. Check out their range haha. The Tibetan exile community made insence is very very good spiritually also...and I love the aroma of the Tibetan insence!

Otherwise good luck!!!!

I thought 'Glottenham' sounded like one of those multi billion holding companies mentioned in hushed tones on Radio 4's PM program...err anyway, its the name of a genuinely cosmic stream that runs through a (non residential) farm I just have bought. My god its good water! I drink it. Its in the Weald of Sussex. Theres woodland also. I just have accepted an offer of £150000 for part of it. (8.5 acres). Time to party! I wanna grow nut and fruit trees on some pasture in Orchard format. Its suppost to be like a garden of Eden for real so that part will be non market. However Glottenham is looking like it might become a million pound business due to the real estate trading! I have sussed various other deals in the offing. The intention wasn't neccessarily eco business, but its turning out that way.

I actually really do think I got that deal due to 'pixy' karma. Pixy as in NVDA machine sabatarge on road construction sites etc. haha. For real. No other explanation really. Love it...so the buyer is a permaculturist. Thats eco. Another possible buyer for another area is in green burials. I thought that was sound. The occult is real, and thats what you get when you die, no fear at all...unless you happen to be a war criminal who started the illegal war of aggression of the century. Scary karma for real. Yep eco is where the business angle is for sure - I don't like this carbon trading thing though, I think its a false trip - you have to just cut down the carbon use full stop rather than try and buy/blag you way out of useage etc...and thus really (again) the solution really is anti market sharing I think. Well we all know that really but we have to survive in this world and all that. Ther are a few things that people really need and many many things that they buy and don't really need but have some sort of neurotic brain program that makes them buy and surround themselves with stuff.

I've made a shelter in the woods - its basic with the minimum things, a stove and the like. Its very calming. Nice green also. organic. Not for sale :)

Blessings.

Hey hold on Ray! I thought you were lost on my first post on this thread! I can't say the nature of the allegations regarding the Nag Champa guru geezer on a public forum due to legal reasons. (is that clear enough?!).

It is something that I've been campaigning on with native american activists for many years. (plastic shamanism...and actually the other matter also). The real native american teachers/campaigners are saying to people here in the west to reach into their ancestry and connect with the Mother Earth through our own traditions of paganism...rather than taking up native american religion, or rather a imitative version. They really are very sensitive to this: Its what they have left out of an amazing reality. I know there is huge amount of it that goes on, but I just thought it worth passing on some actually very good advice to this young person. Think of something else m8. By the way I don't think its relevent of you are sourcing 'genuine native american skins from native americans - because native american do not sell their religion. PERIOD. So (lets be frank again) what you will be making are not native american shamanic drums, but something else, and possible something dangerous called 'scitzaphrenia'. OK? clear enough? Leave their religion to them m8. Advice. (last time).

I would say actually any real shamanic drum has to be made by the individual who plays it and uses it, invokes with it. (this very ofetn happening in a natural/sprit guided type way rather than overtly trying to do ritual) So its not something I would recommend on a business level to get into (making shamanic drums etc). Its especially a native american issue (damn)...thus in the Hindu tradition people have always purchased insence (though again its probably more powerful to make your own). The Hindus tend to be very open with their religion and keen to help westeners who are seeking alternatives etc...maybe too open I would say. really tribal and eastern people/culture should have a closed door policy to the west etc - but then you need defence on the military side which is more than enough to trash a culture unless its a situation like Bhutan where the Indian army plays that role for them. You have tribal/family sharing one minute (with some some business), then after opening to the west you have...breaking of innocence.

Hi, i'm Niki, part of the team at EcoCentric

We are an online eco store, promoting stylish and sustainable homewares and gifts. They are all things that combine the two, showing that being eco doesnt have to compromise on style.

We were set up in 2006 by Oliver Heath, the designer and TV presenter, and the idea was to promote good eco design that can be available to everyone.

Nice to meet you all!

Hi

I am a partner at IndigoGreen. We help households reduce their energy consumption by installing cavity wall and loft insulation. The government provides grants to fund this in order to get as many households insulated as possible. Grants are available to anyone who receives one of a wide range of benefits.

This is a growing industry...

Carmic Cars is a London based Taxi Company, which uses hybrid cars instead of the usual gas guzzlers.
In addition to being a greener way to get around (they offset 250% of their emissions). Each Toyota Prius is driven by a knowledgeable driver and has a handheld games console, free bottled water, plug-in for Ipods and even a selection of magazines.
They will soon be rebranding as Carmic Green.

Best of luck with the business I hope it grows from strength to strength.

I'm Jenni and I'm an accountant.
While that's not primarily eco friendly, I do try and take this approach with my business.

I have a policy of not taking on blatantly unethical/un-environmentally friendly clients and I seem to attract the more unusual business, including a carbon-neutral skydive centre!

I haven't had to buy paper in a while, but I aim to buy only recyled from now on, and run my office in a power-efficient manner, as best as possible.

Most importantly, all tea-bags (essential accountant's companion!) are fair trade :D

Hi there,

We're an engineering company that specialises in building energy management. Basically by linking the controls for your lighting system toghther with your heating and your alarm system you end up with a building that can say "there's no one in that room, turn off the lights and turn down the heating". It actually does a lot more than that but thats another story.

You can save up to 50% of the energy useadge of a building by the way you wire it together..... engage rant mode (I did warn you in my introduction) :D

Basically the way we wire our houses, schools and offices hasn't changed in over 60 years, yet the technology we are all using has changed out of all recognition in that time WHY??? Building materials and construction techniques have moved on in leaps and bounds but for some reason cable installation hasn't.....grrrrrrrrrr:mad: the industry is very reluctant to change over.

I'll end this rant here before I get carried away and upset people... I do wedding and Barmitzvahs as well

Yeah the company is called "Intelligent Buildings Ltd" and you'll have to imagine a clicky linky thing here that goes to a site called i-buildings.co.uk (you could allways cut and paste into your browser as well :p and add a www bit on the front) as I'm too ikkle to be allowed to post external links yet.

A quick PS

Oh... just before someone casts some stones (not that you would) in my introduction I said I was into motorsport what I neglected to mention is that I have been pioneering the use of alternative fuels in motorsport including a 100% bio-diesel/LPG injection stage rally car...

Hi all,

I have been in the forum for a year or so, and work between the UK and France via the Web. I have been webmastering for a Heat Pump manufacturing (http://uk-heat-pumps.sdeec.fr/) company SDEEC based in Montpelier for the last three years. SDEEC is a family run business with the 'does what it says on the tin' hard-working approach. I have just been given the opportunity to promote their products to UK distribution networks.

They have produced a reversible house heating/cooling range, a hot water to 65°C range (boiler replacement/back up) and just launched a high temperature ground source installation heat pump range (which can do the house heating/hot water also). Although requiring an initial investment (grants are possible), when installed and configured correctly Heat Pumps optimally confer between 35% to 80% reduction in energy usage for houses.

They are based on the technology that offered us fridges; the latest vapour injection (Scroll EVI) compressor technology has been optimised to efficiently take calories in the external air (or water source circuits) and transfer and adapt them by heat exchangers to house's calorific requirements. With some of the great insulation advances that people talk about here, they are a certain pathway to achieving carbon reduction targets.

If anyone here has any questions (for my FAQs page) or ideas/distribution offers, even link exchanges (will check out the greenorbit site), I'd be thrilled to receive your input and feedback. I have to develop the project and improve the information on the website, so I hope to get some of your great and good green encouragement.
Best regards,
Paul.

Hi there Emerald Angel,

One of the biggest positive impacts you can have being in the clothing industry is to really think about the source of your raw fabrics and the labour conditions in your supply chain. For example using organic / fair-trade cotton / hemp / bamboo or reclaimed fabrics. If this is a step to far for you at least make sure you ask questions of your supply chain and if you don't get the right answers look to work with someone who cares enough to implement good standards.

You can't change everything you do overnight, but get informed and try to bear the issues that are important to you in mind when maing those day to day decisions about how you do things and who you work with.

That's my thoughts anyway, hope it helps,

EmmieJay

Thanks EmmieJay

I have looked into this a bit. It seems very hard to find the kind of fabrics I use that are organic / fair trade. Though I have a lot more research yet to do. :)

I have just found a tshirt wholesaler that sells organic t's, so that's a start.

I also recycle as much of my business waste as possible.

I suppose it's one step at a time.

Hi there guys and girls,

Really impressed by the amount of environmentally orientated businesses here, I thought I was alone apart from the flower lady across the street.

I've recently setup an environmentally friendly mobile car cleaning service in london. How are we environmentally friendly? Well, we have developed a biodegradable and non toxic cleaning formula, which will reduce the amount of toxants poured into our rivers and lakes. Every vehicle we use has an engine size of less than 0.6 litres. Our aim is to stop you from driving down to your local carwash, cutting the amount of pollution created by the journey. This will also safe you the hassle of queing up for a wash and we'll come to you when ever you need us to. As mentioned above, we dont use any water to clean our customers vehicles saving water and energy. All the products we use are totally environmentally and recyclable.
Just a quick question, how many companies here are based in London?

Well... SMS is quite a 'green' thing anyway, as it often replaces letters which are sent via standard mail... so less paper and less vans on the roads.

One of our clients for example is a major courier firm, which deliveres things like passports, tickets and credit cards... all of which require a signature. So if you're not in they used to journey to your home, and then have to come back the following day. Now they send a text in advance to make sure you'll be there, saving a huge amount of wasted journeys and fuel.

We also offset our CO2 emmissions through a re-forrestation scheme.

On top of this, we use low energy lighting, have a policy of only printing things when entirely necessary and encourage staff to only travel by bike or pulic transport.

We purchase our electricity from a UK based supplier who generates all the energy from wind-power... so we're doing our best.

We develop eco friendly games for marketing purposes. They help increase your prospect customer base which can in turn be converted into paying customers, by promoting your business further in newsletters and such like. So you could say we help to reduce printed forms of marketing over time or replace them completely if your business mainly deals online, we also actively promote recyled paper materials if used together for cross promotional purposes.

Hi!

I’ve just created what I think is a genuine, unique eco-friendly business and wanted the public to know my company exists.

Most companies that sell fairtrade, organic cotton just sell clothes or maybe towels, and because I couldn’t find what I wanted to buy myself, I started my own business.

My website is homemattersmost dot co dot uk and what I sell is organic, fair trade textiles that are meant to take the place of disposable items we usually throw away.

So, yes I do sell organic cotton shopper totes, but I also sell facial cloths, cleaning cloths, handkerchiefs, and a product I solely created, ‘Wee Wipes’ which are made of organic cotton and organic jersey. Yes, ‘Wee Wipes’ do pretty much what the name implies in terms of a replacement for toilet roll for certain moments. I didn’t create this as a joke by the way, I genuinely believe this is a wonderful, sustainable product you can use over and over again and just throw it in the wash with your normal load of clothes. Maybe I’m ahead of my time here on this one, but at least it’s a product choice that I’ve put out there for people to take up or not.

Anyway, I’d love your thoughts on my products or any comments you’d like to share.

Thanks so much for reading this! :)

Jennifer

Your Conservation
27th March 2008, 19:34
Hi Everyone,

My names Luke and my company Your Conservation.com launched last week. I created Your Conservation to offer affordable promotion to businesses and organisations of all sizes and locations from around the World to promote their eco friendly or sustainable products, services, events etc.

Visitors to the site can search by category, industry or even location (town, county or country). This means they can find their nearest eco friendly company, educational course, social or campaign group or event, look for eco friendly holidays, gap years, charities, magazines, restaurants, shopping, organic food or drink or any range of products or services they may want to find within their local area or even all over the World.

Your Conservation is only £20 for a company to join for 1 year (around £1.66 a month) and so is a very cost effective medium for any organisation of any size or location to promote themselves. Each entry includes the company logo, a photo, 500 + words about the company, address details, telephone number, email, website and address, which is all editable 24/7 by themselves, so you can keep your page as fresh and up to date as you please. Also for an additional £10 a year you are able to upload your own brochure for extra depth and show case further information.
This is a great opportunity for your organisation or company to gain some affordable publicity, as just some of the up and coming marketing we are doing is being included in the Green Issue of the Surrey Business Magazine (going to over 14,000 people), a range of shows around the UK, exposure on the a range of high profile websites and magazines, email/internet campaigns and lots more!

I look forward to welcoming you to Your Conservation!

Luke

a bit about us...
we set up other mini eco businesses in the form of party planners to sell our handmade eco 100% natural products. we attend green shows and lpm's where we give out plenty of info on chemical free living and our website is also packed with info. we do free assemblies in schools and hold eco competitions the next one will be launching the eco warrior e magazine in june. all of our product packaging is recycled, recycable or biodegradeable.im just looking for recycled glass product bottles and we'd be completely recycled packaging. we operate on 100% renewable electricity and we use second hand furniture etc as much as possible.
we make 100% natural skincare, baby care (including a fab replacement for wet wipes), cleaning, eco jewellery, hand blended incense, a unique incense stove to replace charcoal burning and other homeware products. One thing i try hard to do is to create multi purose products such as our mind and body oils, which are formulated for the bath, body lotion or massage oil or our soapnut cxleaner which cleans, dishwashes, handwashes, car windscreen washer and on!
i buy fairly traded or local ingredients as much as possible but would love to find a more local supply for herbs and essential oil(wales). We hold local courses and online courses in holistic therapies that are affordable to all and another side to the business is green power saving computers and green computer business service contracts accomplished by remote assistance, turning down power settings etc. yes we are reaaaaaaly busy...
ok so that was more than a bit but hey i didnt waste any paper!
our website is having a major overhall so find us from monday on treehuggaz do co do uk or dot com!!!

Hi all

I'm still quite new on here :)
I own a textile recycling company, we collect used clothing, shoes and textiles from all over the country (door to door collections, charity collections, clothing banks) we are just setting up our school collections supporting World Vision and raising funds for schools.
We sort and grade approx 10 ton of textiles per week good quality clothing, shoes and textiles are sent to Eastern Europe & Africa and the really bad stuff is recycled and used for mattress filling, insulation etc.
Everything we get is recycled including plastic collection bags, we do not put anything in to land fills

Hi My name's Mike

I publish a site :low emission cars.co.uk
promoting more environmentally-friendly cars.

There is great interest in this area, although recently people are questioning about whether car manufacturers are delivering on the promise of cutting down on CO2 emissions. That we need to drastically reduce harmful car emissions is probably universally accepted now. But can you be kind to your pocket as well as the planet. We think so.

One way to 'kick the metal' and find out for yourself is to visit the Live!2008
motor show in Liverpool on 12th June 2008. Experience the current and best of class low emission cars. Green motoring can
Save money on petrol and diesel

Save money on road tax

Save money on company car tax
Save money on running your vehicle fleet
Reduce your CO2 emissions

I am in the stages of completing a site called Environment East (http://www.environmenteast.org.uk) for the UKCEED and Centre for Sustainable Eng and which is aimed at companies working in the environmental and eco innovation industries, primarily in the East of England.

Already a fair amount of information and news but will also shortly be including events and jobs in the area as well as giving companies the opportunity to showcase their own products where applicable, publicise their own news through the site etc.

Should be a good resource for the region. :)

Hello,

Here is my green contribution. If we all switch to a green energy supplier, that will help! And switching is easy!

Green energy may even cost the same compared to what you pay now! But look at the green ratings. A very green tariff may cost a bit more. Try looking at "electricity only" prices so you see all the smaller suppliers that we help too.

How much CO2 could you save if you switched?

Thanks :),

Well, I think it will be rather difficult for you to find somebody to deliver it to you for free, if already a supplier of this wood is not keen to do it for free.
I could try to arrange Carbon Free Delivery for you, but I would need more details, at least how much of wood have you got, is it in some pieces, maximum dimensions etc.

Although slightly more to buy than a box of normal leaflets, once bought these pods can be uploaded and used as a leflet distributor as many times as you like to peoples mobile handsets instead of the waste of paper it can be transmitted electronically and distributed more effectively than a person stood holding leaflets giving them out randomly.

If anyone is interested on how it works more I can send you a ebook on pdf with info in. Please PM me.

Hi my name is Bruce,

Our product helps vehicle's burn much cleaner and also helps us get 20 to 30% more kilometers per liter.

Bio Petro Improver contains naphthalene as an active ingredient. (taken from your website)

EPA article about Napthalene http://www.epa.gov/ttn/atw/hlthef/naphthal.html

These people http://www.thedreambuilders.mybpi.com/management.asp are the same people that ran Bio Performance a few years ago - this is what Wikkipedia says about them http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BioPerformance

I'm not going to comment either way on why they are still in business or what happened.

Yes I do sell fuel treatment too, but I am independent, not part of any mlm or franchise. I did research and learn about many products and active ingredients before choosing one with an excellent reputation.

Hi Everyone,

( sorry about above - but I was aware of this around three years ago and only just found this post here tonight. This is no reflection on you Bruce as their website and sales information is very powerful.)

As for my introduction -Hi, I am Kay
My husband and I own Green East.

We started trading two years ago as K.D. Sales Ltd selling fuel treatment and trading as Dipetane Distribution. This year we decided to expand in line with the success and results shown by our customers and wanted to offer more products that help people make simple choices towards going green.

We meet and talk with all manufacturers before deciding to take on any product, we research the products and the competition and only when we are satisfied that we have found an excellent product at an excellent price, with an untarnished reputation, will we introduce it to our customers.

It is "our values" and "our reputation" for finding such products that our customers trust, in turn adding to their trust in products we promote. We have direct communication with all manufacturers, allowing us to give excellent support and product knowledge.

Apart from Fuel Treatment, we also have compostable plastic bags, made in the UK, chemical and alcohol free hygiene products from hand rubs to wipes (which have been a God send with my Parents both in hospital this month) and an all purpose surface cleaner and disinfectant concentrate, using only natural plant oils.

This week we have introduced our latest range from Sorrells Naturally - Body products free from parabens, sls's and other chemicals. Using natural, fair trade, sustainable ingredients - Sorrells Naturally are also Vegetarian friendly and all products on our site at present are vegan friendly too (no goats milk or honey). Hand blended in East Anglia, this is another outstanding range of products.

I truly love the business I am in and the people we deal with. If I can help anyone do just one little thing that they feel good about and it helps them do something greener - I'm happy. :)

I am struggling this year to improve our environmental policy (http://www.rafting.co.uk/environmental_policy.htm)

I revue our impact on a regular basis as we live in and use and environment that keeps us in business. Many of the actions we have taken in the past have saved us money so also a good impact on profitability.

As much as I can make out our two biggest impacts are

1. Power usage to dry hundreds of wet suits.
2. Transport fuel usage ( we have to transport thousands of customers on and of rivers and canyon each year)

I would really like to do something on that will reduce the impact of the above but my brain has stopped working on this one.

Any ideas?

Hi my name is sadie and i have just stumbled on this site.

I sell products like pure organic argan oil and organic rhassoul clay. As a beauty therapist i fully understand how the skin works and i know what people are looking for in products (like been effective, and less hype) so i source the best products from around the world so you don’t have to! the products i select are not only great for your skin, as the skin does absorb what we put onto it but also the environment, the less man-made chemicals we use everyday, all the better for the environment. If anyone has any questions about any skin concerns let me know

Thanks

Hi my name is Peter and I am one third of The Whole Leaf Co. the other two Being my little bro and best friend Adejare. We started the company after my brother came back from Kerala India with an unusual item. It turned out to be biodegradable disposable plates that they use their in abundance. Unlike other ‘eco-friendly’ disposables, our renewable raw material does not go through an energy-hungry pulping process, we simply pick the palm frond wash it in locally sourced spring water and heat press it at high temperatures to form a plate, bowl or just about anything else you could serve food on.
We don’t use any chemicals whatsoever, we like to keep Palm Products totally natural.

With an extremely low carbon footprint, The Wholeleaf Co.’s compostable Products will mark any business or function out as doing the most they can for the environment.

The products have been certified compostable and food safe, 100 % natural and are biodegradable. They can be used in a microwave or oven. Another popular use is to use them for packaging foods, and natural beauty products using the square and rectangular trays. They have also been used for baking bread and cakes.

The products are fantastic but the true beauty in them is the story behind them.

India has an abundance of Areca Palm trees, which shed leaves every 21 days or so.
When the leaves fall to the ground, the farmers collect them all.
Some of the leaves are composted or used for earthworm farming but most of the leaves are burned.
We use some of the leaves to make plates and bowls and trays and just about anything else you might serve food from.
Well it’s not really us who make them. They’re actually made by people local to the beautiful forests where the Areca Palm trees are found.
The trees are usually found in rural areas where the local people are often marginalised and have difficulty supporting themselves.

Well that is The Whole Leaf Co. story, we have been trading for just under 6 months now and already we will be supplying Oxfam very soon and Sainsbury' s in April 2009.

To see any of our products just check out the website thewholeleafco.

the cutlery we do have is made from renewable forests which work well with heat, unfortunately we dont have cups made from palm leaf as it is very difficult to stretch the palm leaf to a decent depth. I can send you some of our cutlery and some plates if you like? just pm me you details:D

And most of us waste huge energy through our un-eco houses: Here are some good Eco Homes in Cornwall (http://www.new-homes-cornwall.com/our-developments/eco-homes-hayle.html), built by our friends local builder Percy Williams & Sons.

These guys are fired up about green and low energy homes, and in these houses in Hayle they have solar panels, eco heat pumps (which take heat out of the ground and pump it into your house), rainwater harvesting, immense insulation and an electric meter that puts electricity back into the mains from your house when you're making too much of your own. Oh and they're nice houses too, plus a couple of minutes from the beach. Beats me why anyone would not want to live in Cornwall :)

One guy says he hasn't paid for electricity yet. How does the saying go.... Conservation begins at home? I think a lot of this technology could be installed in any home so we could all do it, though the design of the home also makes it a great deal easier to be green, when the windows, walls and roof already have masses of insulation when the place is built.

Anyway this is not my business but I think its worth a mention.

That's great Jasmine, how did you go about working out what your energy usage was? Obviously in your own office it is easy but it must have been a lot of work with your impact in other places.

Jasminerose
9th January 2009, 17:43
Actually the calculator on the carbon neutral company is very helpful. We build our own servers so we easily work out the energy and while we work on clients etc in our office its caculated and that's as far as we go and we do plant a tree everytime we get a new client they get a certificate etc.

We are always looking at ways to improve.

We have been port agents in London for Greenpeace for several years now when their ships make courtesy/promotional visits.

On the freight forwarding side we mainly move goods by sea. When moving freight by road we usually try to back load vehicles wherever possible to reduce empty running.

We used to give business to a haulage company that fueled their trucks exclusively with bio fuel but unfortunately despite having Theo Paphitis as a shareholder they have succombed to the recession and are no longer trading!

I use corn starch void fill when I have it available. I love the stuff, and so do the packing pixies who keep making void fill masterpieces for me to find. LOL :D

I also had no idea it was possible to get hold of biodegradable bubble wrap in UK. Fantastic news. I cant bear poly bubble wrap and dont use it for my orders, simply because its non bio degradable even though it would be so useful.

Although I of course agree with such volunteer and community projects that get plastics bags and trolleys out of rivers, I am not otherwise an eco-businessman. The problem is that much of it is political and not scientific, and is merely a pretext for centralizing power and ruining businesses.

The Adam Smith Institute, as reported in the Telegraph, made a good argument for why, for example, Fairtrade should not be supported - becuase it is unfair ;)

The article (full report linked in) is here:

Wikaniko Ltd
21st November 2009, 08:16
Hi

Just thought I would pop in and say hello. Must say that I am very impressed with the forum and the quality of its members.

We run a company called Wikaniko, (We Can Eco) which is an eco friendly network marketing company based in the UK
It’s going extremely well since our official launch in September 2008
I am looking for two things, and wondered if you guys can help out:

Although we already have over 750 eco friendly products in just over a year, we are always looking for more good products to put into our home shopping and cosmetics and toiletries catalogues which are delivered door to door by our distributors (this is just one of the routes to market that we have). We do not owe our suppliers a penny – we pay proforma for ALL our products. However, we do need a good mark up in order to pay our distributors the healthy commissions that they receive (so don’t respond if your products are too highly priced, or your mark up for wholesale is too small) We are looking in particular for manufacturers of products, possibly for white label. This is an excellent way for any eco company to get its products to market through an already successful and fast growing route (our turnover is already up 40% this month….)

Also, we are always looking for good distributors to join us in our quest to help make the world a better place! There is an opportunity for people to get paid for doing something really worthwhile. And if you are in the work from home arena (and are perhaps struggling) contact me ASAP. We need to talk!

We ourselves have had considerable success over the last 15 years in the work from home type of business as some of you will know, and we are now looking to make Wikaniko even more successful than anything that we have achieved before.
The first year has shown that we are already ahead of target on that score!
So please consider the above carefully, and if you would like to be part of our future success, either from supplying products to homes nationwide, or for helping us to build the business, then let me know.
Thank you for your time. If I don’t get replies or PMs, thank you for allowing us to visit and communicate. I wish more forums were as professional as this one!

Melaleuca celebrates 25 years of business in 2010, as the founder says, they were green before green was fashionable.
