Enterprise Week takes place this year from 12 – 18 November and is a national celebration of enterprise to encourage more young people to turn their ideas into reality. It’s huge – last year alone saw 3,184 inspiring events attended by 445,000 young people, all happening in one week. During Enterprise Week there will be focus days for Women’s Enterprise (Wednesday 14 November) and Social Enterprise (Thursday 15 November) and Make Your Mark at Work will be a theme running throughout the week.

Make Your Mark at Work is a celebration of ideas and enterprise in the workplace. Companies that encourage creativity and enterprise, inspire and energise their employees resulting in a continually evolving workplace that delivers superior performance. Throughout Enterprise Week, companies across the UK will be recognising the huge pool of talent in their employees and will be encouraging them to start thinking about the ideas they have had and how they can benefit their businesses, such as thinking about their own responsibility towards their local community.

Linked in with enterprising ideas in the workplace, the Make Your Mark campaign will be focusing on these three industry sectors: the Creative Industries, Manufacturing and Engineering and Retail. They are all being encouraged to join in with the enterprise agenda to support the development of working environments that foster creativity, innovation and enterprise and to inspire young people about the very real opportunities that exist for employees to have ideas and make them happen.

The Creative Industries campaign covers 12 sectors from advertising, fashion, filmmaking and architecture, to design, computer games and performing arts. These sectors vary hugely but are all based on the generation of ideas. In an industry this vast it can be daunting to know where to start which is why the Make Your Mark campaign has started the Creative Ambassadors Network for young entrepreneurs who can share their own stories and inspire others. For more information please contact Danica Wilson, Head of Campaign: danica@makeyourmark.org.uk

The Manufacturing and Engineering industry is as highly skilled as it is creative. Everything we use daily, from our toothbrushes to the cars we drive, all begun on the drawing board and it has taken one enterprising individual’s perseverance to make their idea happen. The Make Your Mark campaign has a huge resource of campaign champions and supporters who are all passionate about sharing their experiences and encouraging more young people to do the same. For more information please contact Mindy Wilson, Head of Campaign: mindy@makeyourmark.org.uk

The Retail industry may not be the most obvious choice to develop your own enterprising ideas, but in an industry which employs over 3 million people and generates over £250 billion each year, there is a wealth of opportunity to develop your ideas beyond the till point. This industry thrives on communication, forward thinkers and team players and with a third of the UK retail workforce aged between 16 and 24, it is a perfect industry to get involved with Enterprise Week. For more information please contact Vanessa Johnson, Head of Campaign: vanessa@makeyourmark.org.uk

Remember to let everyone know what you’re up to during Enterprise Week by registering your events at www.enterpriseweek.org/register (http://www.enterpriseweek.org/register) and for more information please download the Enterprise Week Action Pack at www.enterpriseweek.org/resources/materials (http://www.enterpriseweek.org/resources/materials). Through registering, you will become eligible to order free Enterprise Week goodies for the young people who attend your events and for each registered event £1 will be donated to charity! The charities we are supporting this year are Children In Need and Sport Relief. For any further information please contact Lauren Maleh, Enterprise Week Project Coordinator: lauren@makeyourmark.org.uk

I am supporting quite a few enterprises over in the Lake District at the moment. Going to a presentation also in a couple of weeks. Should be good.

Fantastic! Any more details that you could share?

Another member is also getting involved, speaking at Warrington Business School - all good stuff!

Anyone else doing something for Enterprise Week 2007? I'm going to have a think this weekend about what I can do here in Bristol...any ideas?

Great stuff Gill - what categories are the prizes in?

I'm wondering if we might keep this thread going, and report back our experiences after the event?

It was a MYM event I got invited to last year that I met Gordon Brown, Alan Sugar (again!) and some dragons at. Was a useful event.

I'm also an official MYM "Connector"

It's a great campaign to be involved with and all the people there I've dealt with are very friendly.
