How do people give an impression of size with their images.
It does not matter so much at the final stage but when thumbnails of different products are next to each other it is not always clear which product is larger or how they relate size wise to each other.
I was wondering how people handled this situation.
(My site will be retailing handbags - purses - wallets etc)

You can use an object that is is easily recognisable such as a coin, or photograph it next to an actual rule..I've seen both of those used.
Personally I do neither, I list the dimensions of the object so that the customers can see for themselves what size an item is.
For handbags though if you photographed them actually being worn then this would give someone a more accurate idea of what they will look like and what size they are.

Or on a plain coloured manequin so you don't detract from the product itself.

As a potential buyer I would prefer to just see the domensions, then there is no mistaking the size. I think a coin wouldn't look too professional .Just my opinion though:)

It's the right opinion Blush, we only buy online if there are dimensions or some guide explaining the product size.

I was thinking more at the thumbnail stage where two products sit alongside each other but might vary quite a lot in size.
Once clicked through I have no problems with dimensions and other things like Boho has suggested.
