Parents will be spending around £1.8 billion on Christmas presents for their children this year. Although the children will probably get just what they always wanted, what about their parents?

According to research by on-line gift advice service www.idealpresent.co.uk (http://www.idealpresent.co.uk/), if they could get the Christmas Fairy to wave their magic wand, there’s three wishes that most parents would ask for:

1. Someone else to trawl the shops for them!
2. To know what presents will keep the children happy for weeks, not one day wonders!
3. To avoid stress during the festive season!

Other popular parental wishes for Christmas included having a guaranteed white Christmas so the whole extended family could go tobogganing!

The magic wand for parents this year is Idealpresent.co.uk. It’s the first online independent children's gifts advice service – the website doesn’t sell anything, but gives FREE gift advice. matching 10,000 gift ideas to the child you want to buy for. Idealpresent.co.uk searches from over 200 retailers and advises where to buy and how much to pay. From toys, games, books, CD’s (anything you could imagine, and things you wouldn’t think of). Browse 200 retailer websites or trawl round the shops, or just use idealpresent.co.uk - it’s your choice! Every present has been carefully selected and categorised by industry experts - not by a computer, so your present recommendation should last for weeks, not just for Christmas Day!

There's also a quick and free "what's hot" section, and an Ideal Present Lists service – think wedding list, but for a children’s occasion.

Ideal Present is independent and is totally unbiased.
Run by toy industry experts, it’s a great way to give yourselves an easier time this Christmas!

I like those - I'll alert my wife to it - (she runs IdealPresent, I just smile at people) and see if some of those can be listed. .... are there any you would particularly like to be listed?

For retailers - you are then on the same footing on the site as the 'big boys'

Keep well

How independant is the site given its obvious commission from their affiliate links? Or at least how do you address the concern that people have that you simply recommend the stores with the best commission rather than the best match?

Having said that I am surprised the links to the store itself (rather than products) arent also affiliate links

Stepen why did you not say it was your business.

good idea, but are we sure your doing this service for nowt ?

As it seems there are a lot of links to the more expensive shops on the web.

and who are these experts that have vetted all the products.;)

the criteria for recommending presents to match a present search do NOT include whether there is an affiliate link or not - it is pure relevance to the search criteria the user has input.

I am surprised the links to the store itself (rather than products) arent also affiliate links

I'm not sure I understand you - please tell me more. The site recommends products and each product has a link - some are affilliates, and some are not - am I missing something?

the site doesn't even have the ability to take payment ! There is no charge for including any retailers products on the database.

and who are these experts that have vetted all the products.;) l

All former toy industry (and big global company employees). Specifically Alison (my wife - and the key driver of IdealPresent) 10 years with Hasbro, pan-European marketing responsibilities and brand management of many household name toys throughout UK and Europe - plus numerous high profile product launches etc etc etc.

keep the questions coming - they are most welcome
