I posted on the e-commerce forum a couple of weeks ago about whether any of the suppliers here would be interested in a virtual expo / networking event on our business park in Second Life, the 3-D virtual world. The latest plans are to have an introductory session on 7th September from 2:30 to 5:00. This will enable us to get all your stalls set up with logos, web links, posters, etc. as well as Second Life notecards. We will also provide you a Tshirt with your logo design on it.

We will put on a couple of presentations with Q&A sessions. The first will be “Using Second Life to market to businesses” and the Second will be “The implications of the 3-D web”

We’ll aim to get some customers along to have a look – but will use this as a trial run for an event on 12th October, which we will promote pretty heavily. If you sign up for this then you’ll be first on the list for any future events we do. The October date will have live music as well.

These events will be absolutely free for all. We will get the stalls fitted out and provide support on the day. If you’re looking for suppliers – or just want to meet some of the guys that have been helping you out on the forum – please feel free to come along.

We are happy to help beginners onto Second Life and show you the ropes.

There are a lot of potential benefits – not least the fact that your audience can come to the event from anywhere without actually leaving the office. It is also pretty easy to use – we will supply a ‘how-to’ manual for both exhibitors and buyers.

If anyone is interested drop me a line or post here. We’d also be interested in hearing from anyone that wanted to organise their own events.

Best regards,

Peter

I might be interested but for the fact that it crashes my laptop every time I try and get into it.

Peter

I have passed a link to this thread to my good friend Victoria - who will no doubt be in touch somewhere along the line.

Funny thing is - it causes her laptop problems as well :)

Hi guys,

I'm sorry you're having problems with it - it does take a fair bit of processing power I guess.

Hi guys,

I have the processing power. The laptop is a fairly up to date Sony Viao. I don't have the same problems with any other virtual sites that I have tried. I might take another look and mess around with the settings and see if I can work out what the problem is.

Hi Franco,

Are you using Vista on your laptop? I've just checked the Second Life website and Vista is not supported.

I should have theough of that yesterday - but I use Macs...

Cheers

Peter

Hello Peter,

Just came upon your post now, and would be interested to learn more about the Second Life event which is apparently planned for tomorrow.

Hope I'm not too late to find out about this...

Regards,

John

Thanks, look forward to hearing more...

But will I have to return here to pick up the news?

Not familiar with how this forum works yet...
