Direct debit online

I want customers to pay monthly for a service by direct debit on a new web site I'm working on. How can we do this?

It is not easy to do direct debits. Talk to your bank. They will tell you exactly what you have to do to enable taking direct debit payments. It will probably be too much.

Asking your customers to do standing orders would be easier. Getting continious authority for credit card transactions may be easier.

Continuous authority for credit and debit cards would be ideal. Do you know how we could go about setting that up and what it would cost?

Again, ask your bank, or more precisely merchant service provider. It is simply enabling your merchant number to do continious authority. You should either use a payment provider who has the option for continious authority or be fully PCI compliant yourself (very expensive).
