Sorry they all seem to take their time, there's no guarantee of acceptance and they are all of about the same service quality.

My advice is to simply go by price.

Yep agree with Steve on this one, nothing quick about it :) Unless you try one of the providers that offers combined IMA and PSP - but then even the ones I contacted about this took a long time to reply to the initial enquiry.

My first stop would always be with the bank I have my current account in. If they also provide the merchant account the settlements could be quicker. Also if you are already their customer they MAY go faster..

Streamline took just over a week for us.
once we had the merchant number - Secpay went live immediately.
I can highly recommend secpay.

Streamline with Protx was mega fast for me Jazz - a week for Streamline to get the merchant account.

As an example, Paypal Pro (payflow) took over 2 weeks! They use HSBC for their merchant account. I called them many times to complain, as I couldn't believe it took so long!

I've got a streamline account too but can't remember how long it took. I think the delay was with 123send to get the mobile terminal so I could use the merchant account.

thank you everyone, I'm going with Sec Pay I have decided. I have forms for merchant accounts on the way from barclays (my bank and business bank accounts are held with) and streamline.
Would I be right in assuming going with barclays would be quicker or is the ID process the same regardless?

My business account is with abbey, the standard merchant account was with lloyds cardnet ( no longer need it), streamline was still pretty quick for us.
You will not regret choosing secpay, we will be upgrading to the premium package once the site is more established and I can see 6 month's worth of sales patterns to gauge which level we will need.
