I don't know if this question is trivial or impossible to do, but can anyone tell me if there is a way to find how many words or phrases are searched for on, say, Google in a given time period.

www.wordtracker.co.uk

Might help somewhat.

Remember Barrie - the results given to you by wordtracker will only give you an indication of the volume of searches.

Wordtracker gets its search data from some small search engines such as dogpile (it tells you exactly which ones in the info on the site).

But it is certainly an excellent tool. Also - consider using the Google Adword keyword tool in conjunction with it.

There are no specific stats on volume of Google searches.

The most info provided is via the Adwords keyword tool which grades search volume from 1-5:
https://adwords.google.com/select/KeywordToolExternal

Also, Google have just released Google Trends for a daily basis:

On keyword research in general, you may find this invaluable:

The tool I use is:

http://tools.seobook.com/general/keyword/

As others have said, none of these are totally accurate, but as long as you use the same tool (rather than chopping and changing), you'll always be comparing like-with-like, which is surely the point?

I use the tools.seobook.com site a lot & love it. The spider tester is good too!

If you click on tools from the homepage & scroll down, there are a number of free tools you can use for seo from a rank checker toa keyword search for misspellings & phrase suggestions.

I like it & have not paid for any service yet but each to their own. There are so many tools like this I'm sure everyone has their favourites :)
