Well its not a newsletter for sure - but a great idea all the same. One ting I couldn't understand: the 3 issues for a pound thing - are the issues you get the NEXT 3 issues, or the LAST 3 that are already available? I'm guessing the latter and that's why you can do it so cheaply?

Hi

The issues are the next 3 issues.

Think of it this way. Magazines make the vast majoirty of their money from selling advertising space within the magazine. The larger the number of readers, the more advertisers are willing to pay.

Magazine companies offer incentives for subscribers such as 3 issues for £1 (http://www.magsite.co.uk/store/3-issues-for-1/cat_1.html), 3 issues for £3 (http://www.magsite.co.uk/store/3-issues-for-3/cat_2.html), 6 months 50% off etc.. They do this as they hope subscribers will continue their subscriptions beyond the trial offer, which from what are told do..

So looking at it as a moneysaving tool, have a look at the costs of the magazines below (shop prices)

These are all available for trial at 3 issues for £3 ! Some of them would cost about £20 if buying from the newsagents

The lack of cover would put me off. It is easy to research magazine further, not having an image of the majority of emap magazine is unnecessary asd they are all listed on their own website - Magazines usually offer gifts to get people to subscribe and as they can usually buy these gifts at cost the perceived value to the customer is more than a discount.
