does anyone here have a knowledge of integrating google checkout. All I need to know is if I need to have an SSL certificate on my site. I'm not using the API callback so have to manually deduct stock.

Can anyone give me any advise please

I tried to do it last week and gave up in frustration. I'll try again in the near future and if I'm successful I'll let you know. In the meantime if any one else here has done it I'd also be grateful for advice.

it's installed and working (I think lol) but I'm just worried about the SSL thing, I want to make sure my customers transactions are safe

As far as I know an SSL certificate is a secure site. I pay £100 a year for this (arranged by my site hoster). I think you can tell by going into the checkout on your site and the url changes from 'http://' to 'https://'

While we haven't done any Google checkout installations yet (holding off for as long as possible to ensure no ongoing bugs or early teething problems), I cannot see why you would need an SSL certificate installed on your own site?... Assumming it's a bit like Paypal, where you actually visit the Paypal website to make payment (ie: the secure part is with them), then I assume you wouldn't need to consider SSL.

That said - It might make your customers feel that bit more "secure" if ALL aspects of the shopping experience are behind SSL... If you do need (or want) to buy a dedicated SSL cert for your domain, then keep us in mind (less than half the price of Barrie's host ;))

Cheers
