I asked this on ebay in the past but got 50/50 answers.

I have a domain name registered for a website i will be starting up after my discussions with my brother into going into business together.

Are there any reporcussions as such as its the same name as someones ebay shop on ebay?

Its a fantastic domain name but wasnt registered until i did last week

Cheers

They cant do a thing... a ebay shop name does not give them any rights atall to the domain.

what is the name ?

As long as you are operating in different markets I see very little reason or possibility for them to complain. (Or have a leg to stand on).

Maybe someone here more directly involved with law can provide a better answer, but I believe I'm right.

Thier ebay shop name is purely for ebay only as far as i am aware.
The fact that you have registered the domain name makes it yours.

Will it affect your sales if they continue to operate under the name in ebay?
If you google for certain things which might be relevant to your business, are they listed?

If No & No, then its their problem.

Good luck with it anyway.

ta for your reply

If you put the domain name in ive registeed but without the co.uk then they do appear but has Ebay Seller written next to it. Its not optimized so doesnt really show what they do

Its just an idea to use it, ive got a couple of domains i like so still deciding but didnt want to go ahead and find i loose it

my domain name has a - inbetween the two words, their ebay name has a _ , dont know if that would also make a different

Its only because the name covers two industries that i think its a good name

anywya, will stop talking in riddles

thanks very much

I don't know about the legalities of having the same name as an ebay seller and I shouldn't think it would matter.

I was looking for a new domain name the other day and came across a brilliant one, did some googling and found that it was also the name of an ebay seller so I decided not to use it.

This was because I didn't want my customers to get confused and associate my new business with the ebay seller purely because what if the ebay seller got 20 negative feedbacks in the last 2 weeks and my customers think it's me trading on ebay as well as my own site ikswim ??
