Just signed up to this forum, hello! :D

I have on average 1000 uniques a day to my product comparison website, but maybe 80% spend 30 seconds or less on my site, and on average only access 1.6 pages before leaving  (according to awstats)

Im not allowed to post urls until ive made 15 posts or more, if you type supercoolgadgets with a www and .co.uk in the right order you should get there ok. please note my site is not the .com site!

I am currently working on:

Sorting products into categories.

Making the home page load faster by simplifying the design

looking into getting more "targeted" traffic, the traffic I receive at the moment is fairly generic and spread over several countries. (also according to awstats)

Any advice on the page design would be a great help, and also peoples opinion of how long it takes to load the first time, if you came across a link to this site would you give up?

Thanks.

1st - Doesnt look pro - wouldnt trust it with my money !

2nd - Decided to see where you are located... i clicked "contact us" which opened 25 new windows and crashed my computer.

3rd - You have categories without products... now wonder people give up.

4th - Clicked on a product and took me to another website which was better than yours.

Would agree with the above; also:

Advertising banner at the top needs to go,

Logo on the left looks stretched, is hard to read and the blue is too intrusive!

http://www.supercoolgadgets.co.uk/index.php

if this it, don't mean to be rude or horrible but, it is terrible in so many ways and on so many levels.

thanks for all the constructive criticism, it is a great help! also the reason you were taken to another website is because I host a database of other peoples products, and I would receive a commission if you had gone ahead and bought the product you clicked on.

i will look into the contact us link.

keep the replies coming!

Do you have money to invest in this project ?

I might have some products which you might be intrested in and can also provide a website design service.

So you are only an affiliate, not a ecommerce website. If that is the case you need to make this very clear - in the way price comparison sites do - such as kellkoo etc... Otherwise makes it seem like a scam!

i have no intention of making it look like a scam, I will make sure the product comparison is a little more obvious.

If it is only an affiliate website, why have a basket, checkout ect?

Given the millions of quid spent on their sites by the likes of BoysToys, IWOOT, Firebox this site really doesn't have the right look and feel for a gadget site I'm afraid.

I think you would like to havea a gadget site but you need to face the fact that this market is already stitched up tight and look into some of your other less well covered hobbies.

Don't understand why you have a basket and checkout if there are no actual products on sale here.

This makes it look like you want people to think that it is a fully opertional store, when in fact it isn't.

Do you sell anything? If not, lose the basket and checkout

The pictures look very poor quality (Firefox) and the overall look says cheap and untrustworthy.

Also, before buying anything, I would want to know who you are and where you are based. Therefore, the contact us link should be more than just a mailto: link.

it is legislation for e-commerce sites to put up proper contact details under the Distance Selling Regulations:

"# The name of the service provider must be given somewhere easily accessible on the site. This might differ from the trading name and any such difference should be explained – e.g. "XYZ.com is the trading name of XYZ Enterprises Limited."
# The email address of the service provider must be given. It is not sufficient to include a 'contact us' form without also providing an email address.
# The geographic address of the service provider must be given. A PO Box is unlikely to suffice as a geographic address; but a registered office address would. If the business is a company, the registered office address must be included in any event.
# If a company, the company's registration number should also be given.
# If a company, the place of registration should be stated (e.g. "XYZ Enterprises Limited is a company registered in England and Wales with company number 1234567") though this is a requirement of the Companies Act as from 31st December 2006, not the E-commerce Directive.
# If the business is a member of a trade or professional association, membership details, including any registration number, should be provided.
# If the business has a VAT number, it should be stated – even if the website is not being used for e-commerce transactions.
# Prices on the website must be clear and unambiguous. Also, state whether prices are inclusive of tax and delivery costs."

Just a few pointers to consider :)

thanks for all your input, I will lose the shopping cart as it is not being used, and simplify the design and layout. Ill also make sure its clear to viewers that it is a product comparison site, and that I dont sell myself.

The blue really hurts my eyes, so it might be an idea to ditch that - and invest in a really good logo :)

Also, as the others have said, make it clear exactly what kind of site it is -it looks like a shop on first glance, but isn't, so it is confusing and doesn't instill confidence in prospective customers.

Where is the price / product comparison? there is none.

No contact details.

Search our store? its not your store, just a product feed.

Without the 'who you are' why would anyone buy form you, If your just an affiliate don't hide it.
