Hi,

Was just wondering how many keyword terms that people optimise for?

i originally thought it was just a few but I now realise that a lot of sites optimise for over 20 keyword terms and some up to and over 100 terms.

Thanks,

Darrell

Hi Darrell,

Are you talking about per page or per site?

It is not very effective to target too many keywords on a single page. Normally one-three words or phrases per page is enough.

A site with 1000 pages could therefore be targeting 1-3000 keywords or more, however most will have one or two main themes pointing back to the homepage or main categories.

I was thinking per site.

I try and target 2 per page so I guess when my site is to launch I will be targetting about 100 pharses.

I would suggest targeting 2 main keywords. More importantly, I would suggest that you choose your longtail (not your most important keywords you are targetting) very carefully. I can guarentee that if your website is relatively new, you will get more traffic from these longtail keywords.
