Hi,
I presume when you say "Private" SSL, you mean a Self-Signed certificate? If that is the case, whatever hosting account / provider you use should be able to provide it through your control panel (I do provide that to my clients).
If it's an SSL certificate - there are a number of signing authorities and the pricing varies from one to another, and also depends on what the Security cover is for - i.e. the "insurance" cover the signing authority will provide you incase of fraud, theft, etc ...
We provide SSL certificates starting from £39 per year for an intranet, internal IP addresses, and £49 per year for e-commerce use (the price goes up from there depending on the level of cover you want) - if you need any more information, I would be glad to help you - just send me a PM message on here.
And yes, you would need a dedicated IP address for any SSL certificate - again, whoever you host with should be able to provide a dedicated IP to you - sometimes for free (depending on the type of hosting), and most to the time you would pay a small fee for it.
Hope this helps ...

Faiz

Our cheapest SSL Cert is a Rapid SSL Certificate for £24.99 per year. Info here (http://www.rapidssl.com/ssl-certificate-products/rapidssl/ssl-certificate-rapidssl.htm)
You will need a dedicated IP from your host, if you want to go ahead with the SSL Certificate drop me a PM with your email address. :)

I bought a rapid ssl from Carl. Dont know how he does it but hes much cheaper than rapid ssl direct. Just gave him my server info and provided the certificate request. The turnaround was very quick.
Oh and I dont know why you need a dedicated IP address as I have 2 signed ssl certificates on the same IP and it doesnt cause any problems or warnings.
Someone explain this more to me, I never understood this at it works without dedicated IP.

Thanks Martin :D
Unlike http which allows countless websites to share a single IP address, SSL allows for only one certificate per IP address. Therefore, if you need to use an SSL certificate on your site - each domain will need to have it's own unique IP.

I didn't think SSL's were IP Dependent? The main requirement for the cert is that the url specified is correct... for example if you intend running a cert on a webserver the request must include the full domain name for example www.anything000999000.com, and not anything000999000.com for example
We use verisign for our certs.
You make the SSL request from your host machine and enter the key on the verisign website. They do some checks adn then issue you the public cert key.
PM me if you need any more info but verisgns website explains all.
