Hi,

I'm Darren, in the next few months i will be researching for the possibility of setting up my own online business website. At present I am not sure about the product range and just seeking any advice on product ranges that may take off or any research techiniques.

Hi Darren,

So you are thinking about what to sell ... Hmm .. If I would know what to sell why would I tell you ?

I dont think anyone can tell you what to sell - it is your guts feeling as entrepeneur to figure it out.

Otherwise we would all be gizilionares here :).

What products do you know about? Are there any products related to something you feel passionately about - e.g. an existing hobby? Do you want a product with mass-market appeal, or something niche? What's your reason for starting this business?

All/any of the above can affect your decision as to what to sell.

Well,

I have am looking for a big market (mass market) where many people are interested in the products. As long as people are interested then i will market my own business and make more people aware through different markets ways. This way the business could has the chance to grow. I was thinking of the sporting range but then i reliase how many businesses online currently sell goods like that. One of the biggest stages is deciding what market to go into so this is why i'm asking so many questions.

Any advice is appreciated.

Darren

If your going mass market I take it you have a big budget? If not I would look for something under developed then go in for the attack

i would recommend looking into niche markets instead... where there is a need. this is when you can get higher conversions. otherwise, you will end up facing a lot and lot of competitors and spending more and more on the marketing side of things

So far I am just looking into starting up a business. This next year will be vital for me where I will be making my business plan etc. I need to decide on a market.

well.. niche market could be anything for example:
- children with disability ( they require certain toys, certain products, certain facilities, information)
- students need cheap, quick, last minute CV and cover letter help. (you will need to be really really cheap to go through this market - word of mouth will get you loads of places)

you could think locally of something that would help your community and make you some money.. but that wouldnt generate loads of income as a business i would think...

mmmmmmm.....

Why not think of something that you are interested in or age good at?

Me and my other half are extremely interested in modified cars etc and he has always worked in the motor trade so that’s why we started our car accessories business.

I think its very important to enjoy what you do otherwise you can easily grow tired of it and give up.

Yes i was thinking about sports equipment but i know how big the market is at present. I am into computing but again I would be undercut by places like amazon/ebay who can buy in larger bulk. So this is how I am having difficulties deciding.
