I have recently setup TAS Basics and set the financial year to run April to April. I have started entering transactions from Nov '11 (when I started trading). In any report I run, in the selection criteria when I choose "This Period" it pre-fills the dates with From: 06/04/2011 & To: 30/04/2011.

I want it to recognise that the current period is now December.

This is also affecting the "TAS Basics Today" overview screen - it shows that I have zero transactions in "Current Period", when in fact I have several transactions in December.

How do I change the period? Is there a way to close off the period at the end of each month?

Not sure about 'Basics' as I use TASBooks2, but in that, bottom right you would have effective dates for the Nominal Ledger, and Sales and Purchase Ledgers.

Double click any of those and you can set a new date (use the shortcut 't' for today's date).

I've never closed any periods, not had a reason to and you will get a warning anyway if you post into a previous month or year. The only thing to remember if you do post into a previous year is to re-run 'Transfer Profit to Balance Sheet' to keep your Balance Sheet current.

Thanks for replying.

I found that basics is different. In the preferences menu you can choose "Change Default Date", then choose "Set to today's date at start up". This then aligns the default period to the current month as well.
