Hello One and all,
Well after talking to lots of really helpful people I would like constructive criticism about my site. How do I make it look more professional, What colours to use, what would make you buy something from me or what would make you NOT buy from my site. Layout ideas etc etc... You get the picture.

My web designer has booked his bed at the funny farm!!! I have been told by a few people it looks amateurish which i thought was harsh and i have equally been told it's nice:| .

I have just jumped into my thick skin, so give me all you have got!!!!

Thanks, I think
Tracey

I don't think it's all that bad! :) From a branding point of view, you'd be in a much stronger position if you didn't use a photo in your logo and used a graphic instead. Do you have the logo in high resolution format for print? That's potentially where you could come unstuck (marketing materials etc).

Hope this helps - and good luck!

Mark :)

Hi,

Your site is ok (although many designers would disagree with me here)- check how your bullet points look in Firefox. Plus the menu (both main and categories) looks a bit amauer(ish) - some styling would help here.

Your biggest issue from the selling point of view is the fact that your cart is hosted on another domain name - this can put some customers off.

Please let me know if you need help to the site revamp.

Im not sure how that product works i.e. if it can be hosted on your own web hosting or not..

Hi Tracey,

As pointed out by Carl, your shopping cart is hosted by aitsafe.com

It means that your site is just "preparing" the product and "pass" the request to add that product to cart to aitsafe.com. Please ask your web designer for more details about that.

On the FireFox side: there are different browsers you can use to browse the web - Internet Explorer, FireFox, Opera etc. Internet Explorer is still the most popular but FireFox is getting bigger market share by the day.

If your customers are using FireFox to look at your site they will see that the bullet points are actually "overlapping" with the left side menu.

Typically it means that HTML for your site has not been tested on different browsers (not to mention MAC platform).

Little stork, what do you want this site to ultimately achieve?

I think that by calling it a baby box site you have boxed yourself into a very limited market and you should allow yourself room to sell special treats for new mums and babies.

I did some figures earlier and then lost the lot, but basically I don't see how you can turn over more than about £75,000 a year at the very best from selling £50 baby boxes - is this enough for you?

Is it worth getting the site redesigned?

Has the site as it stands made any money at all?

It is not a bad stab to be honest, I would have thought you would make a few sales off it, enough to know whether baby boxes is the way to make money for you.

I wonder if you recently had a baby and have been so enamoured of the little cuties that you are failing to see past the heart based decisions to the head based ones.

With a redesign, consider showing that you sell much more than baby boxes because when I see the word 'box' I think oh no this is going to cost me £50 and I only want to spend £12, so back I go to google. This is going to loose you sales I believe.

Your strap line is gift of a lifetime. This is not good because it is ambiguous and frankly if I thought the best gift I was ever going get was a bathtowel and stack of nappies I'd be very disappointed.

In your redesign, get more product on the home page and loose all the waffle. People need to see in the blink of an eye that you very well may have the kind of thing they are looking for. They can't be arsed to read a lot of text.

Baby colours would be my guess for a baby gift site, plus a lot of white space and better product images - your's are not the worst but could still be improved.

Millionaires, they get theirs, like the butcher and the baker, oh look out for Mr Stork, he'll get you in the end......

I don't think the site is that bad really. Its quite clearly layed out just lacks any styling and that logo must go! You need something to represent your site, a memorable mascot or a strong logo. (I do lots of work for kids so if you go down this route, give me a bell) I also find the pink colour a bit sickly, perhaps some cream blocks of colour would set it off better? Hope this wasn't too harsh, good luck with it :)
