Hi all

I'm new to the forum. I started my company in July and business is doing well.

I wanted to see if there is anyone out there who is aware of networking opportunities in Birmingham, or would like to start a group?

It would be great to meet with like minded individuals to discuss all things SME, the ups and downs, growth ideas, use of social media, etc etc the list is endless.

our company offices are on Church Street in Birmingham (nr Temple Row) so if you are nearby there is a great coffee shop up the road called Urban Coffee we could meet, or if anyone wants to meet after work there is the Old Joint Stock near Colmore Row.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Ian

In addition to which, there are already a good number of SME orientated business networking groups in Birmingham. Getting a network going can be hard work, and it would be worth considering various existing groups.

I have only been to two. One was aimed more for Irish businesses in Birmingham, and the other was a complete waste of time.

The thing with the waste of time networking event I mentioned is that everyone is going there to sell, no one is going there to buy. Most of the people I spoke to in the second one were like "Oh well we do this and we could help you out with X. It would be a real benefit to you" and I immediately switched off. Networking is about making connections and building relationships.

A good place to go for a start off is LinkedIn. There are many business groups there, and one group called The Midlands Network. This one has been a bigger help to me than any networking event I've been to.

As for physical meet ups, I would check Twitter as well to see if any are going about. I'm looking to attend a few more soon, but it's just finding the time!
