Hi Guys,

I said hello yesterday in the introduction thread now time for the first real post :p

My main business is the music shop karacha, It’s totally mail order, over the phone or ecommerce. Karacha.com at the minute is great for people order all the standard accessories such as strings, reeds and so on but I want to start selling music books through it.

At the minute I do put up various discounted books but I would like to get a lot more on the site. The problem is there are literally thousands of music books out there, at the minute teachers order them over the phone and we just order them on a day by day basis and then post them out when they arrive.

I can’t treat the books in the same way as instruments or accessories as there are just too many and literally everyday we’re ordering a title we’ve not heard of before.

I’d like an automated online system whereby customers could shop for the books on karacha.com just as they do now with all the other products. Then at the end of they day we can print off a list of all the books order, we can order them and then dispatch them when they arrive with us. This would perhaps work better if the publishers mailed them directly to the customer but most won’t do this. The key to this seems to be a database which holds the names of all the books offered by the publishers and then linked into the site.

Does anyone have any experience with anything like this or any ideas?

Cheers,

adam

With all these facts in mind, I would be tempted to build a site using the Amazon E-Commerce (web) Service (http://www.amazon.com/b/ref=sc_fe_l_2/002-3212534-8715227?ie=UTF8&node=12738641&no=3435361&me=A36L942TSJ2AJA).

Although I haven't used it yet for a live site I have built a couple of test interfaces and it would seem ideally suited to your needs.

You can tightly integrate those products (or product categories) you wish to offer from the vast Amazon catalogue into your own web site. You effectively become a drop-shipper so have no stock to hold or delivery costs etc.
