This one puts me in a quandary. When I was in Vietnam, I realised just how oppressive the regime is. I was never out of sight of either the army or the police. Locals were being stopped all the time and asked for papers. Most of the buildings were in an imminent state of collapse. The system stinks - and it survives largely because of foreign aid. It's the only country in which I've had a bayonet at my stomach for walking in the wrong direction!
The people are mostly pleasant, although their sense of morality seems to be waning. Unfortunately, what they read and hear is restricted to some rather blatant propaganda. Yes, I'm sure the children are in need of help; however, what the country really needs is a change of government - and spending on health instead of an oppressive military and police force.

First of all, I would like to thank for your reply to our organization's topic. With over 14 year operation in Vietnam, we have seen many rapid changes in this country.I don't know exactly the lastest period of time when you were in Vietnam, but I hope you will have chances to come back this place and notice its positive innovations. We are a non-profit and non-governmental organization in Vietnam. Our goal is to help disadvantage children to face up to difficulties ;for example, educating them to be literate or training them to have a stable job, in order for the children to overcome the barriers easily. We always try our best to help as many children as possible and warmly welcome the contribution from all over the world.
Please visit our website saigonchildren.com to understand more about our current activities or email to Chinh'et'saigonchildren'dot'com. We will reply to your attention as soon as possible. Thanks!

Regime change is not always the answer Steve ;)
Anyway, I like what you're doing SCC, I currently support and sponsor children from Iraq who have been orphaned or otherwise come from a very poor family.
Please accept my empathetic support to your cause.

Good work. I help out and my wife works for a similar operation here in latvia called Children our Future.
It's hard work at times but can be very rewarding. Alot of children here are robbed of their childhood as they care for there drunk parents with whole familes living in one room.
Keep up the good work!
