You could always try www crowdcube com (to few posts to place URL's)
"Crowdcube gives the UK's best entrepreneurs and business pioneers a newfangled way to raise business finance by tapping into a 'crowd' of like minded trendsetters willing to invest smaller amounts of cash in exchange for rewards and a stake in their business".
I have not used them personally but they have had some excellent reviews.
Good luck.

I work for Loven Patents & Trademarks, a firm of patent and trademark attorney's based in Lincoln.
If you require investment for your project, it may be worth exploring what Intellectual Property you have which can be protected. Any investor worth their salt will insist that your business brand is protected by trademark and that any potential new product is either patented, subject to a registered design application or both.
If you would like to discuss this with me, please private message me to arrange an appointment or teleconference.
Kind Regards

You could try Funding Circle where you can borrow from direct from lenders rather than going to the banks. I rang round a few banks the other day to find out more about business loans and HSBC where offering the best interest rates so might be worth speaking to them.

crowdcube looks very interesting. Would be interested in how much of the business she had to give up for that amount of money!?

Depending on the type of project it is, Kickstarter might be a good option. It's mainly focused on creative projects.

Dear Cjsdh
If you have a new product you do need to consider what Intellectual Property (IP) protection you need. This can cover such areas as designs, patents, copyright and trade marks; a business is going to look a much more attractive proposition with these areas protected or at least with protection applied for.
You do not want someone else to benefit from your hard work.
Check out the UK IPO website, it has a wealth of free information about all forms of IP.
