Find out what keywords people are searching for that fit with your site concept, then write hundreds of pages about it.

it's as simple as that.

Of course there are things to do like use your keywords in Title tags, Heading tags, text links etc, but the basic concept is pretty simple.

It isn't just about building a site for search engines, you have to realise that humans will visit too.
