Hi
Im new to this site and wondered if anyone could help.
My boyfriend and myself started a company 2 years ago due his electrical profession. To save money (and with the help of our accountant) I have been doing the books etc. My problem is, Im not a business person (just learning along the way) and would really like someone to show me how to actually run a business properly, ie cashflow. We are in the Essex area, does anybody know of anywhere I can go for this help? I cant do a proper business course as I work full-time myself.
Any advice appreciated :-)

Morning,
I have mentioned this a few times on here but there is a free service called Business Link that has offices based around the country. I have been to some of their meetings about starting up business etc, but they also offer meetings that cover accounts, budget etc so it might be worth checking out in your region. Search Google for Business Link and you shoudl find them.
There were about 20 people that attended the meetings I went to and it was also a good networking opportunity.
Hope this helps.

Hi
Thanks for that. I have spoken to them on the phone previously and had a "mentor" over the phone, but I feel I need some face to face help, I didnt realise they had places you could go to meet people. I will def look into that.
Thanks again for your help.

I'm in Essex and have been on a few Businesslink courses, even managed to find one on a Saturday so I didn't have to give up so much work. They have been invaluable!
Now, where do I get one of these mentors??

Handy if I could find something on a saturday. I had a very nice man try to help me over the phone who was part of business link but i didnt feel it was enough for me as I am a complete novice and didnt understand his terminology.
A dog trainer too - very handy to know - i have two dogs and very much a dog person :-) (sorry completely off thread now, but I am a bit of a dog bore!)

From being based in Essex, I have just looked in Google and
accountant-essex.co.uk
Offers free advice from their home page. I would imagine based on the times at the moment that people will offer a free consultation as they do need new business more than ever.
Hope this helps

I'm doing 'planning for growth' next month I think, as I'm wanting to, well, grow... I'll have a field for dog training in September/October time, and I'm not far from you. Follow me on Twitter if you like dog chat!@BoredomBusters
Here's the link for Essex Events. Some are free, so even if you have to have a day/afternoon off work at least the course won't cost you.
