Hello

I was happy with my TAS Basics but decided to upgrade to version 7.4 this evening. I followed the instructions given, making one change which was the install location to the destination of my previous TAS Basics and on rebooting and running, I'm being asked to create a new company.

The instructions did not say that this would be needed so expected to run the application and all my information to be there.

I've also noticed that a new folder has been created in my START > ALL PROGRAMS area called TAS and a subfolder of BASICS with the TAS shortcut. My application is installed on the D:\ drive so not sure why this was created. Is it ok to delete this folder?

I thought I may need to create the company again with rubbish info and then restore from back-up but wasn't absolutely sure, so here I am.

Looking forward to receiving your solution.

Thanking you in advance.

You should always install to the specific directories as it would make it easier on upgrades!

The default installation folder is C:\Program Files\TAS\Basics.

Open Basics and select File > Restore from the menu bar.
Make sure that you select the option 'Restore from an Alternative Backup File' and click Browse

Browse through to where you have stored your Basics backup file.

The backup file will have a name like: TAS_[YourCompanyName]_[BackupDate].TB0

When you have found your backup file, select it and click Open.
You're back on the 'Restore Data Files from Backup' screen.

Now you have selected the file that you want to restore. The next step is to make sure that it's going to the right place.

Click Restore to continue.

To make sure that you restore the backup to the right location, click Yes.
Browse through to the folder where your Basics data is stored and select your DATA1 folder.

If you use Windows XP, this will be C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\TAS\Basics\Data1.

If you use Windows Vista or Windows 7, this will be C:\ProgramData\TAS\Basics\Data1.

Click OK to continue.
Basics will start to restore your data.

When it's finished restoring, click OK.

The backup file will have a name like: TAS_[YourCompanyName]_[BackupDate].TB0

You should also be able in theory to copy that file somewhere safe, just in case, then it would probably be easier to uninstall the software using Add/Remove Programs, and then reinstall it but keeping to the same directory as it should be.

Generally speaking all program softwares go into C Drive (or whichever drive your windows installation is on) and then you can always partition the hard drive and use the separate partition to store all your data files, word documents, pictures etc - depending on what version of Windows you are running as to how easy this may be. Windows Vista and Windows 7 have tools to do this already built in
