If anyone is interested, I've just managed to get a neat trick going to connect to a customers table (plus others) in a mySQL database and collect the customer name/addresses/telephone numbers etc and import them directly into my Outlook Contacts - it even checks for duplicate entries and changed values :)
All runs through a small exe file as well.
Simple idea and a simple(ish!) solution, which is just what my client needed - if anyone is interested in implementing a similar system either for themseleves or clients let me know :) I'm now working on extracting and importing straight from from my CRM (SugarCRM) to outlook - fo no other reason than the fact that I can lol
