Afternoon from a very hot and sticky Portugal. Awful game, Czechs vx Italy, if you're at all interested.

Anyway...

I'm after some advice about what to get which would mean that I can keep working while I'm on the road. I don't really want to get a lap top, but I do want something that I can access my emails from and upload documents, stuff from Notepad etc. on to.

Any thoughts?

Thanks
Emma.

I work off one of these when I'm out and about: http://europe.nokia.com/nokia/0,1522,,00.html?orig=/phones/e61/

I get email, browse the web, access our systems etc etc

I know you said you don't want a laptop, but you'll change your mind once you have a play with the Sony Vaio T2.

Small, lightweight, 7hrs battery life. Beautiful bit of kit.

Emma,

I think you'll be hard pushed to do the uploading thing without a laptop - only because trying to type a long document on a phone will do your head in over time.

In terms of email devices I swear by my blackberry. I have 10 pop3 email accounts that get the messages delivered to the phone. The worst case delay is 10 minutes. It's great - and you can also set your signature up so it looks like you are actually in the office - so makes you look very responsive. Where necessary I have dashed into an internet cafe to upload something of magnitude but I can usually fend things off till I get back in the office properly.
Also - the new blackberry's, and the new Nokia's with similar functionality, will also let you open attachments these days. Depending on the size of attachments you may want to consider a 3G varient if you attachments can be sizeable.
I do know for a fact that "3" launched their business products today - and they look pretty competitive. Personally , my Blackberry is served by T-Mobile - and I can also see some attachments (but without formatting).

Cheers,

Rupert

Can't speak for the other Nokia phone, though it's a Nokia, so it can't be bad I guess.

I use a Nokia 9300 which does everything you ask for. I like the clam shell design, and the 9300 which is the latest in the Communicator series is quite a small phone. There is the 9500 but I don't need Wifi or a camera, so the 9300 fits the bill.

Iy doesn't run the Windows PocketPC OS, so it's inherently stable, but equally that does restrict any aftermarket software available.

Anyway, works for me. YMMV

Yes I haven't tried uploading anything yet. But I can open attachments (spreadsheets, word docs, PDF's etc)

Thanks guys for all this info. I'm going to have to do a bit of research and get my Portuguese ready for using in our local tech shop! That'll be fun.

Have a good weekend.

Cheers,
Emma.
