Hi,

Hope someone could possibly help me, i am in the process of setting up an online shop which will be selling custom items of a high value. Due to the fact that items will be custom and i would preferably want to confirm details with the customer i just wanted to ask would it be possible for me to take payment details and then manually process them myself rather than having it automated using an online merchant account, etc.

Ideally i would want to contact the customer first before processing the payment aswell, if anyone has any advice i would be very greatful.

Thanks

Adam

Paypal has a service where you can send an invoice to your customer via email and they can pay using a credit/debit card without opening an account. It may be an option if your prices are likely to vary from one customer to the next.

Hi, thanks for your reply, i dont really want the customer to process the payment themselves as i want to communicate with the customer before payment goes through.

You can still do this with the Paypal facility. You can discuss all your clients requirements, agree a price etc. and then issue the invoice. It's all under your control.

I'm sure there are other options but I find this works just as well.

I use this as I too need to discuss things with prospective clients before they place an order. I have a contact form on my website - they fill it in, I phone them, we discuss whether my service is appropriate for them and whether they have a strong enough story to make it worth going ahead etc. When it is all agreed I email an invoice to them with the choice of payment methods including PayPal via a 'pay now' link in the email.

Any standard merchant card system will have this facility also. Speak to your bank or to get an idea https://www.protx.com

SECPay also offer this facility and you don't need to be logged in to their control panel to use it. Intead you can set up an html page which you save on your pc, then use whenever you need it.
