Hi,
I run my business from home, and my insurance company just let me know 2 days before my home insurance expired that it was going up by about 80%. I have tried to find a broker that will provide home and buildings insurance for us, but no luck so far. Can anyone recomend anyone that might be able to help.
Thanks

Good Morning,
We have a deal with one of our top insurers at the moment & they are issuing some discounted rates, dependant on your trade we may be able to offer a competative quotation.
Drop me a pm with some contact details if you would like me to have a look for you.

It really depends on the type of business.
When I advised my insurance company that I was running a secretarial business from home they confirmed there would be no increase in my insurance rate and any of my office equipment just falls within the normal contents policy.
However, I have to make it clear on my website that all face-to-face visits must take place at an off-site location as I do not have insurance for business visitors.
Did your insurance company say why the policy was increasing so steeply?

Hello campbeji,
Working from home is something that shouldn't have a massive impact on the cost of the insurance. The only time it could is if you are storing 10k plus stock at your home. That's because it is then considered a theft risk. In insurance the term 'risk' is normally referring to the likely hood of a claim. I work for a business insurance broker and everyday I speak to lots of people who are now running their business from home.

I think you get a much better quote than that. You should try an online insurance comparison website such as money supermarket.

While you are into online business from home and other similar business ventures you need to keep your papers clean. Search in the internet for people who run similar business and they could come to your help. Also try to get useful suggestions from them.

Maybe worth joining a reputable small business federation, some of them offer discounted insurance within their joining fee.
