View Full Version : Seeking accommodation near Hay/Brecon

Sorry to hijack this forum with an un-business-related question (I may move it to Time Out actually), but I'm thinking of going to the Hay Festival on 4/5 June (it'll be my 30th birthday the following week and what better way to celebrate than to do something I have been meaning to do for years!).

Having browsed the Hay Festival website, I am advised that accommodation is often booked up years in advance  Does anyone know/can recommend somewhere to stay that isn't too expensive and is easily accesible to the festival site on the outskirts of Hay? We will have a car, so a little daily car trip would be fine.

Thanks in advance.

Hi Becky can't help with Brecon itself but if you need some recommendations for just outside (Merthyr way) let me know.

If you are doing the festival bit camping is a must. After your first dodgy batch of mushrooms and 20 spliffs you will not mind communal toilets, honest.

Actually, surprisingly there was space left in the camping field! I have booked in there for £15 per night for two of us and our car! Seems very reasonable, and I do enjoy camping actually. Luxury camping though, with duvets and pillows!

That's cheating!

I know, I know! But it's soooo good! :) Obviously can only use this method if you have a car with you, carrying that kind of gear on a walking/camping trip is a no go!

Is Hay still the place for bookstores? I'm afraid festival activities would fall by the wayside if I was staying in the region.

Have a nice time, Becky.

Is this coded festival scoring speak?

It is indeed, Steve. Bill Clinton once said the Hay Festival was the Woodstock of the mind! http://www.hayfestival.com/portal/index.aspx?skinid=1&localesetting=en-GB

No, I'm just well into my creature comforts when I can get them, and the envy on the faces of ALL other campers when you unroll your duvets and pillows out of the boot of your car and build heaven in your tent!

Envy?...hmmm... you're talking about a bunch that import their own rocks to sleep on if the ground's too soft!

seriously... without the 5-bed detached tent, with en-suite, and separate chiller for the champers (darlink!)... just a novice me dear...;)

Enjoy!:):D

Don't do what I did, I took a camp bed, sat on it, over balanced it, and shot out the back of the tent:eek:
Could not get back up for laughing - oh those where the days:D
