Hi everyone,

What a great site - it was recommended to me and has some good stuff here - I wish I knew about it last year!

So what do I do....well, I was kind of thrown into going self employed after not wanting to go back to work full time and part time was not financially viable, After searching for something to do from home, I started a local printed directory - the Addlestone & New Haw Directory. My first issue was September last year and was 24 pages and all black and white. My June is is 44 pages and has colour covers and a 12 page colour section in the middle of the book with a total increase in circulation of 1500. It's not been easy especially as the wee man has got older and needing less sleep and more attention but I really enjoy it. Luckily I have 8 years publishing experience (design side and a very long time ago). I really hate cold calling so I have to really motivate myself to do it.

Then, in April I received an email from a very lovely gentleman who saw my directory at his sons house and invited me to join his network of online local community guides. My site launched last week and I have nearly 100 businesses on there with their FREE web link. It covers part of Surrey and has everything from local community news to place to eat along with the directory of services!

It's very exciting and I've got a stack of work to do with it as well as maintaining my directory. Oh yes, I also do marketing and design work for my old company, plus a few smaller local companies.

I am sure I shall be using this site for some help and if anyone in my area wants to add their website please feel free (oops didnt realise I have to make 15 posts beofre I can post my URL - you can email me direct I hope if you are interetsed).

Hi Vicci I am pleased you took the dive into self employed life, good to people striving to do more for themselves. Looking forward to seeing your site, I think you might be able to put your link into your profile then we can all have a look. Not sure if that is post dependant as well though

and oh, welcome as well :)
