Lancashire Writer Wins Publishing Award

A poetry anthology titled `In Touch with the Essence' by Lancashire-based writer Carol Anne Strange has won The David St John Thomas Charitable Trust Publishing Awards for Poetry, promoted by Writing magazine.

The anthology, which raises funds and awareness for the Woodland Trust, is a first poetry collection for Carol who is a full-time writer and creative consultant. Published by Red Arc Media, the poetry collection is inspired by love, nature and the relationship with time. The book also features selected diary extracts, which provides an insight into the writer’s life.

Said Carol, "I'm delighted that the book has won The David St John Thomas Charitable Trust Award. It is quite a personal collection of work which has allowed me to experiment creatively and marks a significant turning point in my writing. It's wonderful to receive this recognition."

Carol, who has been writing professionally for over 20 years, received the accolade at an annual prizegiving at The Majestic Hotel, Harrogate in May. The book also received praise for its production and typesetting which was undertaken by Carol's partner, Mark Fenwick.

The award-winning writer is not the only creative in the `Strange' family to be enjoying success. Her brother, Mark Strange, film producer, actor and fight co-ordinator, has been gaining recognition and acclaim for work on the Skylandian Pictures debut feature film `Displaced' which Carol provided the concept for. `Displaced' was completed earlier this year and signed up by Hollywood sales agent, Silverline Entertainment. Mark is currently working on his next film `Underground' which is being directed by critically acclaimed Chee Keong Cheung from Intense Productions.

"It's been a great time for us but the achievements are the result of many years work and dedication", said Carol. "I've been a consultant to Skylandian Pictures throughout the making of `Displaced' while also pursuing my own career as a writer. It's been incredibly difficult at times, but somehow you find the energy to keep on going."

Widely published and a prolific writer, Carol is currently working on three non-fiction book projects under contract and is hoping to continue work on her novel.

`In Touch with the Essence' by Carol Anne Strange is priced £6.99 and is available from all good book shops. Alternatively, you can order online at www.redarcmedia.co.uk to request a signed copy. A pound from every purchased copy of `In Touch with the Essence’ is donated to the Woodland Trust in support of tree preservation.
