I am currently a graphic design student in cardiff, Fitness and my health is very important to me. I have recently visited most of the larger gyms in and around cardiff with a questionnaire. This questionnaire investigates whether there would be a demand for a specific menu or dishes aimed at fitness fanatics/bodybuilders etc within resturants. alot of the people i talked to all agreed that sometimes they cant eat in resturants as much as they would like because the food effects there diet and training. me and a close friend intent to exploit this, he is currently studying nutrition and fitness. Once we both understand our goals I intend to visit resturants with this concept, both myself and my friend could write up a huge amount of dishes and also offer a promtional scheme where by i would further visit gyms, fitness shops etc with flyers and promote my idea. Maybe give vounchers offering half price off dish on that particular menu. only problems i have is that im not sure about money etc, how to entice the client but to also get good returns to cover costs of pr work and advertisments.

i would be greatful for feedback or any help possible, bare in mind this is an idea that will need tuning etc, something i intend to do alongside my university course... jonah

I am not sure what your idea is here to be honest....

You intend to get resturants to add "gym friendly" receipies to their menus which you will provide and then get the gyms to promote them to their clients?

Where do you see the income coming from? Are you intending to sell the receipies to the resturants? "lease" them to them? Profit share on the sales of these particular dishes?

If you say to the resturants tht you are promoting them in gyms are you promising any particular additional turn over or simply a hope that they will get additional business?

I dont know about Cardiff but certainly in most the big cities I go to there is already no shortage of resturant customers in most establishments for the peak hours (after 6pm Thurs- Sat/ Sun) though some have more issues for other evenings of the week/ at the earlier hours - do you think that most gym goers are the sorts that want to go out more on a Monday at 5pm than Friday evening?

When you say gym goers are you talking about the normal attendees who are simply doing it for a bit of healthier living or the minority in significant training? Out of my larger team of 15 people at work, 13 of them go to the gym but all 15 have no issues with going to a resturant.

I can understand where the thought originated from in that I personally struggle to find a restaurant where I can eat the normal food, but thats due to either religion or health reasons in my case, but I also have a daughter who is a potential olympic athlete and yes the things she should be eating you cannot get in the normal run of the mill places to eat and by the time you have altered an already good menu dish, it really takes the enjoyment out of eating out

However, yes your idea is vague, in that do you intend marketing certain set meals as a whole ie ready prepped, or do you itend selling menus or ideas to restaurants or do you intend setting up a restaurant??

Help me out here!

hey thanks for ur replys, the more i read my first post the more i realise how confusing it sounds...

more to the point i have decided within my research to look at current restaurant menu's. try to exploit the fact that there is a target audience that will add additional customers buy promoting a healthier selection of dishes aimed for the athelete etc. i also intend to offer my services getting these customers into there restaurant... visiting gyms , fitness shops, activity centres etc, try to entice customers into the restaurant by offering them discount etc, you get where im going?

Well many moons ago in a different life of mine, I used to run a restuarant as Head Chef, the phases ones life goes through ... well at my age it does! Anyhow if you want to pick my brains (if you can find them amongst the accountancy stuff that now hangs around it) you are more than welcome.

Will there be a rating system like e.g. so many 'fitpoints' awarded to each meal?

could well be, different meals can be suggested for different needs, for example, a controlled amount of protein, carbs and fats.
