View Full Version : FTP access in explorer. Advice?

I'm experimenting with FTP access via explorer because my FTP client software is temporamental. (Each time I want to add to the website I end up uploading the whole thing again)

The plan: I was going to generate the pages using Net Objects Fusion (just happens to be the software I'm using) and then drag and drop the html files as required.

I've set up a shortcut on my desk top to my FTP site and the files are perfectly visible and clickable in explorer. Which is good.

However, my early experminents in dragging and dropping files into my webspace have resulted in error messages about me not apparently 'having access' (although plainly i do), and the server being reset. Which is bad.

Worryingly, the website then goes offline for a period.

Any suggestions?
Is my plan flawed?

(Not really a techie)

hi richard,

personally i've never used explorer to do that. an easy ftp program is filezilla which i use dailly, you can find it here: http://sourceforge.net/projects/filezilla/

i've found it to be super reliable

hope this helps

I like cuteftp from globalscape, its not free but is very good. Theres a 30 day or whatever free trial. I suppose you could use ftp from a command line, thats free - not too easy tho ;)

I use Flashfxp, not free but IMO one of the easiest to use.

it is odd, i have just set up an FTP server for my business.
Now i cannot access it from the net as i get the windows not allowing me access error message.
But other ppl can access it, which i suppose is rather the whole point so i am not going to worry about it further.

you mean you cant access it from the local network by trying to access it from its external ip ? try the local ip

I use Filezilla and it is as good as any ftp programme I've used in the past (and it's free).
