I come from Crook and it is a good place to live but not a great place to earn a living. My father worked at Brancpeth Colliery and my grandfather at Bankfoot. There have been one or two large employers come and go:- Advance Throwing Mills, The Carpet factory etc but in the main if you want work you need to travel
No doubt Wear Valley District Council will be cutting back on spending so who knows what the future holds for the area
It's a shame really because the people are really pleasant and deserve better
