There are many sites out there that allow you to create a website for next to nothing, however they are just the basic sites etc.
Does anyone know of a website builder site that is a bit more in depth to the point of being able to add a search and database facility but at the same time be easy to use without needing web programming experience?

Hi
1 and 1 have hosting with built in web building software. There ar also non coding knowledge databases, ecommerce, forms and free dynamic content on several subjects. The only downside is the control panel is not very user friendly.

It would be nice if someone created a website creator package that doesnt require you to go on a 2 year course on how to understand it.
Surely it cant be that hard for them to make one that anyone can use...but then I suppose that would put all you web designers out of business.

I'd say it's worth taking the time to learn some HTML and CSS - they're not really programming languages at all, but rather markup languages. I'd say you could pick up the basics of both in a day from a site like www.webmonkey.com.
Alternatively, go all Web 2.0 and adapt a blog from www.blogger.com or www.wordpress.com. Although I've tinkered with the code and the stylesheet, the front page of my website is just based on a Blogger blog. It's really easy to update, and the dated content keeps things looking fresh if you remember to add to it reasonably often.
