Has anyone had first hand experience in creating buzz worthy adverts that are likely to be passed on? I've read a number of books on the subject Grapevine, The Anatomy of Buzz, Buzz marketing, The Tipping Point etc.
We are soon to launch an on-line personalised greeting card offering
www.flyingcards.net and would appreciate any advice. I thought of an application that would let younger customers colour in templates add a message and send as an e-card. We would run a monthly contest for the best coloured e-card and post the best 20 up on site so friends and family could view and vote for their favourites. Would this work?
your valued feedback would be most appreciated

It sounds like you've got a business idea that can really benefit from effective referral systems.
Having the finished cards online so your client can send an email to others with an email that says something like:
"I've just designed a card for John's birthday. It's quite funny. To see it click here."
Then that would encourage others to visit the site.
And there are a number of other viral marketing appraoches that you could also use.
BTW, I had a look at your site and:
"We are presently soliciting feedback on ways of improving and fine tuning the offering so we can serve our customers better"
gets Wednesday's award for "unnecessary jargon".
"We would love to hear your comments on our site and suggestions for making the site and our products even better"
says the same thing, but like a human being talking to a human being. :)

Had a look at your site there are some excellent articles
Thanks, I've had a lot of good feedback on them.
And there are some cracking new articles planned
e.g.
"What Hank Williams can teach you about marketing"
and
"Don't waste your time polishing turds"
Had a look at your site there are some excellent articles and your offer of a free book encouraged me to sign up for your newsletter
It's a great book.
However, that offer ends at the end of March.
(and I've not planned anything to replace it)
So, anyone else who wants the free book better sign up before I have my breakfast on Saturday morning.
After that, it'll be gone from my site forever ... or for a couple of months (who knows).
And I get Thursday's award for spam ....
