Hi
This is a bit off topic but i hope someone can help.
Im trying to book a taxi through a hotel i am going to be staying at in Italy and to do this they say that i must send them my credit card details. I am a bit wary about how i should do this and was wondering which method is the safest to do this, email or fax?
Any advice would be really appreciated
Cheers

Fax is probably safer, emails can be read by anyone over the internet if you have the right tools, I don't think it happens often but I wouldn't risk it, I always send a fax.

Is the taxi from the airport to the hotel? Why can't you book it when you arrive?
It is much safer

Because im going to watch the Italian grand prix and the hotel will be full of people wanting taxis at the same time and i dont want to risk trying to book a taxi when i get there incase they are all fully booked

As someone who travels internationally almost every week, the answer is a given: neither one!
At least two other options are available:
1) Book over the phone. If they need a credit card number, quote it over the phone.
2) Book it through the hotel. This is the safest option.
Don't ever send credit card details in an email. As a last resort, send them via a fax only if it's not in a public area and the recipient is standing next to the machine.
One final word. Never accept a ride with an unsolicited taxi. If you're arriving without an airport pickup, use a prepaid taxi. Next, use a taxi from the official taxi ramp. I could tell you many stories about individuals who were ripped off or kidnapped by using other taxis.
I hope this helps.

I can't believe that staff at a European hotel won't take a credit card number over the phone. Did you book your room online? If so, they already have your number.
Still, if it's not an option, faxing to a hotel is reasonably safe. Initially I thought you were wanting to fax to a taxi company.
